Carrie Preston On 'Kaya's' Limited Run, 'Happens For A Reason,' Actress Reveals 'Elsbeth' S3 Arc

The third season of Elsbeth ended on May 21, 2026, with its 20th episode. Carrie Preston reprised her role as 'Elsbeth Tascioni.' With the end of Season 3, fans are eagerly waiting to see what is in store for them in the fourth season. The finale marked the return of ‘Kaya’, alongside 'Teddy' proposing to 'Roy.' Carrie Preston refers to ‘Kaya’s’ brief appearance in Elsbeth Season 3

During her latest conversation with The Hollywood Reporter on May 21, 2026, Carrie Preston was asked about the experience of doing fewer scenes with ‘Kaya’ compared to how it used to be in the previous scenes. Carrie said that she missed the character, portrayed by Carra Patterson. Preston mentioned that the situations are very different when Carra is present in every scene. She revealed the reasons behind the character’s brief appearance and said:

“I think everything happens for a reason. Carra just had another child and was able to be with the family, and those hours were long. It was great she got that time and then when she came back, she was ready to be back. Hopefully we’ll have her back more next season. I know she wants to. But it’s also been wonderful for the character because we see what that friendship means to her by it being absent.”

Carrie Preston also addressed the character of ‘Kaya’, saying that she is very “interesting and dangerous” and that even 'Elsbeth' wants her to thrive at the same time.

Carrie Preston shares her expectations for Elsbeth Season 4

Carrie Preston said in her interview that she was excited to see 'Elsbeth' confronting an individual like ‘Alec’, the mayor-elect. Carrie mentioned that although her character is attracted to ‘Alec’, she later finds she has a blind spot, which the writers have avoided for a long time. She said that this is one of the reasons why 'Elsbeth' becomes vulnerable. Preston shared the things that she would like to see her character exploring in Season 4 and said:

“It would be fun to see family. Maybe meet a parent, a mother or something. Peel back that layer. We’ve seen her as a mother. We’ve seen her as a girlfriend and in an intimate relationship. We’ve seen her as a best friend. Let’s see her as a daughter. I think that would be really fun. And then of course, I’m sure we would have a really fun time casting that.”

Apart from this, Carrie stated that she is happy since Elsbeth will return with a fourth season. Furthermore, she recalled that Mia Farrow was cast as her mother in a play years ago, which received a positive response from everyone. Preston said that Mia might appear as the mother of 'Elsbeth' this time. She continued by saying that Bette Midler also might get a chance to play the role.

The third season of Elsbeth came out on October 12, 2025, with one episode being released every week. Apart from Carrie Preston and Carra Patterson, the show also features Wendell Pierce, Molly Price, Micaela Diamond, Daniel Oresekes, and many others among the lead cast members.
