Nicholas Brendon, an American writer and actor best known for his role as 'Xander Harris' in the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, passed away at the age of 54. The news was confirmed by his family through an IG statement. Nicholas Brendon had faced several health issues over the years, including cauda equina syndrome and heart issues. While Nicholas Brendon's family didn't give out the actual reason for his death, it's said to have happened from natural causes. Brendon had been a famous face in the entertainment world, and his passing sparked grief in the industry.

Nicholas Brendon passed away at the age of 54: What was the cause of his death?

As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Nicholas Brendon's family shared a statement, confirming his death. In the statement, it was revealed that the actor passed away in his sleep, and it was caused by natural reasons. The statement further revealed that while Nicholas Brendon was known for his acting skills and was hailed as an actor, in the last few years, he found his passion in painting and art.

The family further mentioned that Nicholas was enthusiastic about his art, which reflected how he was as a person. The statement further added that there was no secret about the actor's struggles in the past, and he was on medication to manage his diagnosis, from which he had been suffering, and was hopeful for the future. The family further asked for privacy during this testing time. The statement, which confirmed Nicholas Brendon's death, could be read as:

"We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes. Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was. While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing."

Nicholas Brendon's health struggles

Nicholas Brendon suffered from several health issues over the years, including cauda equina syndrome, which is a serious spinal condition that involves nerve compression in the lower back, causing pain, limited mobility and even temporary paralysis. This condition required Brendon to undergo several surgeries. His first surgery took place in February 2021, following which, after his arrest in August 2021, the actor suffered paralysis in his genitals and legs, as reported. This again needed him to undergo another spinal surgery, during which his spinal cord was punctured, and it resulted in a cerebrospinal fluid leak. Apart from that, Nicholas Brendon suffered a cardiac attack in 2022 involving tachycardia or arrhythmia, which is a condition that causes irregular heartbeats. Following this, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

Nicholas Brendon was born in Los Angeles and wanted to be a baseball player, a passion that ended for him in his 20s. He, following this, decided that he would pursue acting, which could help him to manage his stutter, something that he developed when he was seven to eight years old, but made him fearful about conversing with others, so much so that he didn't start dating until he was 21 to 22. When he was 25 years old, Brendon faced a tough blow when his girlfriend left him, and he lost his job as a waiter.

Well, eventually, he bagged the role of 'Xander Harris' in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and worked for seven years. He was also involved in developing 'Xander's character in follow-up comic books and was credited as a writer for the same. He was a part of the ABC family movie, Celeste in the City and the sitcom Kitchen Confidential. Brendon was a part of the TV series Criminal Minds, which began a four-episode arc on ABC's Private Practice. He also had a recurring role in Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveller Who Can Also Travel Through Time. Speaking about his personal life, he was married to Tressa DiFiglia from 2001 to 2006. In 2014, he also got married to Moonda Tee, and in 2015, the actor announced his separation from her.
