Brooklyn Store tried to reach out to Kelly Clarkson many times
Amid the feud, a source in the Art of Play neighbourhood told Page Six that the shop tried multiple times to reach Kelly after the reported incident. However, locals have shown an outpouring of support. As per the source:
“They have not heard from Kelly but have reached out via multiple channels. They’ve experienced such an outpouring of support from neighbours and visitors to the store. Anyone who stops by can see it plainly. Other businesses have dropped off gift bags and sent flowers.”
The source further said the store, which sells items like collectable playing cards, puzzles, and games, has seen a boost in business since the incident. There has been online hate, but footfall has increased rapidly. Elaborating on the same, the source mentioned:
“They have gotten nothing but love in real life. The hatred continues online, but they stopped looking days ago. They have absolutely been seeing increased foot traffic with many people coming just to take a selfie with Molly.”
All about Kelly Clarkson’s feud with the Brooklyn store
On October 10, 2026, Kelly Clarkson visited Art of Play in Brooklyn Heights and later accused the shop of treating her like Julia Roberts' character in the 1990 film Pretty Woman. She narrated the incident on X and said the disagreement centred partly on a mechanical singing bird named Molly, displayed in the store for a reported price of USD 15,000.
The store has disputed her characterisation of the encounter. According to its account, "Everybody that comes into the store is treated the same, like a normal person. That's what pissed her off... She was treated like everybody else who comes in, whether they're in sweatpants, 9 years old, or a celebrity we don't recognise. They all get treated the same way."
The singer revealed feeling disrespected and also highlighted the uncomfortable interaction with a staff member. Art of Play later described the encounter as a misunderstanding and said Clarkson had spent only about five minutes inside. Co-owner Adam Rubin subsequently told Page Six that the episode had been "ludicrous” and "surreal,” and demanded an apology from the singer for spoiling their reputation.
Soon, security footage of the singer surfaced, reportedly showing Clarkson spending about four minutes and 50 seconds inside Art of Play Brooklyn. During the visit, the singer is seen browsing and briefly discussing a mechanical singing bird called Molly. Before leaving, Clarkson appears to gesture toward the front counter.
After security footage of the singer's visit surfaced, the store's co-owner publicly demanded an apology for alleged threats against the business and its staff. The store says Clarkson's online rant was a "reprehensible abuse of power" from a public figure.
