A 21-year-old Brazilian fitness enthusiast, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who loved hopping on adventures, died while doing what she loved the most. But it had no fault of hers, but those who were responsible for her safety, as they forgot to attach the safety rope. The incident has sent shockwaves to people across the world. Now, the Bunjee jump staff who carried her to the bridge and threw her revealed what went wrong on their end.
When Maria signed up for the bungee jump from the Skeleton Bridge in São Paulo, she believed that she would be in safe hands. But no one can imagine the horror she went through in her last moment when the staff member threw her, and she realised there was no safety rope on her. Now, the bungee jump staff who were present at the scene when the incident happened on June 13, 2026.

One of them, in the court after their arrest, revealed that he 'doesn't remember' that his safety rope was checked or attached. Maria tragically died after falling into a 131-foot. The staff from the bungee jumping company named Entre Cordas reportedly forgot to attach the safety cord.

The reports claimed that the three staff members, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were arrested. Reports claimed that they changed their clothes and tried to flee the scene even before ambulances and police arrived. However, they were arrested shortly. Later, speaking in court, one of the accused named Egoroff, revealed that he changed his clothes as they were wet, and he wasn't trying to flee. They just went to the car to put on a clean one. By that time, the rescue team had arrived with their equipment. He said:
"My shirt was already wet… it was very dirty, I went to the car and put on a clean one. The rescue team arrived with the equipment, and I got out and went up the trail. I went to the car, changed my shirt and went to the middle of the bridge. That’s when the police arrived with guns drawn and then it hit me. We’re here. Nobody ran."

The accused staff member revealed that everyone responsible there stayed, and they weren't trying to flee. Another accused, Cintra, revealed that it was Eoroff who was usually responsible for checking the safety cords, but he doesn't remember if he checked them on Maria. He added that in 99 per cent of cases, he is the one who checks the safety measures, but in Maria's case, he just does not remember. He said:
"Usually it’s [Mr Egoroff] who puts on the rope. In 99 per cent of cases… and I assist with the operation. I participate in the check, I call the person, I check the helmet. But in her case, I don’t remember. I don’t remember."
The judge hearing the matter in the Criminal Court of Limeira ordered that the three men remain behind bars, as a young girl lost her life, and this could have been avoided if proper care had been given to the matter. The judge pointed out that they exploited the victim's vulnerability, who trusted them with her life. It also came to the notice of how they attempted to flee and change clothing after the event, and demonstrated awareness of the illegality of the activity.
