Brandon Clarke Dies At 29, What's Memphis Grizzlies Player's Cause Of Death, As Drugs Found In Home?

The sports world is in a state of grief after the news broke that the Memphis Grizzlies forward, Brandon Clarke, has died. It was his sports agency that broke the news of the NBA player's death. According to reports, Brandon was only 29 years old at the time of his death. 

Brandon Clarke dies after finishing his seventh season in the NBA

According to TMZ Sports, Brandon Clarke passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026. As of now, the exact details surrounding his tragic death are still not clear. However, it is worth noting that the news of Brandon's death comes just six weeks after he was arrested in Arkansas. Reportedly, this was for things like improper passing, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing, exceeding the speed limit, and trafficking a controlled substance. As per TMZ Sports, the case was still open when Brandon passed away. For those unaware, Brandon had just completed his seventh season playing in the NBA for his team, the Memphis Grizzlies. 

Brandon's sports agency, Priority Sports, announced his death in a statement released on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. In the statement, they revealed how devastated they were at the passing of the NBA player. They also opened up about how much Brandon was loved when he was alive. The statement by Priority Sports can be read as:

"We are beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke," Priority Sports said. "He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched. He was the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family. Our hearts are so broken as we think about his mom, Whitney, his entire family and all of his friends. From high school to San Jose State to Gonzaga to the Grizzlies, Brandon impacted everyone who was part of his life."

The statement by the agency further mentioned that everyone loved Brandon Clarke because he was always there as the most supportive friend one could possibly imagine. They claimed that the player was unique in the joy he brought to all those in his life. They wrote, “It's just impossible to put into words how much he'll be missed. We love you, BC.” 

The Memphis Grizzlies react to Brandon Clarke's death

After the news of Brandon Clarke's death broke, his team, the Memphis Grizzlies, also reacted to it by taking to social media. They revealed that they are heartbroken by the news of Brandon's passing away. Calling him an outstanding teammate, the Grizzlies wrote: 

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organisation and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

What is Brandon Clarke's cause of death?

If a report by NBC News is to be believed, Brandon Clarke died in the San Fernando Valley. As per the authorities, the Los Angeles Fire Department had responded to a 911 call of a medical emergency sometime after 5 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026. However, by the time paramedics arrived, Brandon was pronounced dead. Reportedly, drug paraphernalia was found in Bradon's home, and now the incident is being investigated as a possible overdose. To determine the exact cause and manner of Brandon's death, an autopsy will reportedly be performed.

Brandon Clarke had played all seven seasons of his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies after he was selected 21st overall during the 2019 Draft. The next year, in 2020, Brandon made the All-Rookie First Team and went on to average 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in the 309 games that he played in his career. This past season, however, Brandon had only managed to play in two games in December owing to a number of injuries.
