After staying away from the spotlight for a while, Brad Pitt has opened up about one of the most difficult chapters of his life. He sat down for an interview with Esquire and revealed how he has started alcohol consumption again. This update comes after he was sober for nearly seven years. At the same time, the actor reflected on his personal struggles that he tied to what he called "family stuff".

Brad Pitt reveals he has started drinking again

Brad Pitt recently accepted that his seven-year streak of sobriety has ended. He explained that he has started drinking again. But this time, the actor is approaching it differently from the way he did in the past. In his words:

"I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon."

Still, the actor explained that he now drinks in a much more controlled and restrained manner. He admitted that sometimes he becomes overconfident about it. Yet, he soon realises how excessive drinking still causes issues for him. According to Brad, he can enjoy a few glasses of wine. However, he knows he needs to keep strict limits on it. Explaining how he keeps things moderate now, he said:

"I have to be professional about it."

For those unaware, Brad Pitt earlier spoke at length about his battle with alcohol. After his high-profile split with Angelina Jolie in 2016, he got help for his addiction. At the same time, he spent nearly a whole year going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He also credited his contemporary actor Bradley Cooper for supporting him during his sobriety.

However, the interview also revealed that he has been facing emotional challenges for a long time after his divorce. Brad admitted that there was a time when personal pain increased to an extent that he understood why some people chose death for relief. He also clarified that he never wanted to harm himself. Moreover, these natural survival instincts prevented him from taking any action.

When Brad was asked about whether his feelings were related to his kids, he did not mention anything. Instead, he simply called it "family stuff." The actor's comments come at a time when many of his kids have tried to distance themselves from his surname.

Four of the six kids that Angelina Jolie shares with Brad filed a petition to remove his surname from their names. In fact, Shiloh became the first person to officially complete the process after filing the paperwork when she turned 18. Since then, Maddox, Zahara, and Vivienne also filed to make legal name changes. However, the court proceedings for some of these petitions are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Brad's other kids have also appeared to move away from using his name in public. Knox has often used "Knox Jolie" in his official school-related documents. In fact, his other siblings have also adopted different variations of the Jolie surname in professional settings. The distance between Brad and his kids has grown since his separation from Angelina in 2016. But after a lengthy legal battle, the divorce was finalized in 2024. Some sources close to Brad have revealed that he is heartbroken by his kids' decision.

All about Brad Pitt's personal life

While Brad Pitt and his kids' relationship remains complicated, he has seemingly moved on. The actor has been in a serious relationship with Ines de Ramon since 2022. She is a jewellery executive, and they often appear at public events. Some reports even claim that they are reportedly living together.
