Border 2 Early Reviews, Sunny Deol Is The Soul Of The Film, Varun Dhawan Is The Surprise Element

The much-awaited war drama, Border 2, is released on January 23, 2026 and is getting a lot of love. Ever since the film's teaser was released, it became a talking point among the masses, and people eagerly awaited its release. A sequel to the 1997 film Border, Border 2 will be a nostalgic wave for the masses.

Border 2 plot and real-life inspirations

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 features a stellar cast which includes Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and more. According to multiple reports, the film draws on various operations that took place during the Indo-Pak War and extends beyond the Longewala battle. In contrast to the fictional combinations found in other stories, Border 2 relies very heavily on real-life heroes.

Sunny Deol reportedly plays Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, commanding officer of the Sikh Regiment. He’s the only actor reprising a part from the 1997 movie. On the other hand, Varun Dhawan plays the role of Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, a Param Vir Chakra winner. Diljit Dosanjh portrays the character of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the sole Param Vir Chakra receiver of the Indian Air Force. And Ahan Shetty plays the role of Lt. Cmdr. M.S. Rawat at Naval Front, attached to missions with INS Khukri.

Border 2 early reviews

The war drama, Border 2, will surely invoke the patriot in you. As per Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, Border 2 touches the emotions of every Indian as it honours valour, sacrifice, and brotherhood. Giving a rating of 4.5 stars, Taran mentioned that Sunny Deol is the soul of the film. In his words:

“#SunnyDeol is the film’s beating heart… When he roars, the theatre is sure to erupt, especially when he delivers the power-packed lines… This is vintage #SunnyDeol – commanding, righteous, and unforgettable. And an important fact: the film opens with #SunnyDeol – he’s there *from the very first sequence right till the end*… In fact, he has the meatiest part in #Border2.”

Taran further mentioned the other cast and revealed that Varun Dhawan is the surprise element of the film, bringing vulnerability to his character. Diljit Dosanjh was praised for his comic timing and emotionally charged screenplay. He also mentioned Ahan Shetty’s confident screen presence and confidence to stand tall with seasoned actors.
