Bonnie Tyler passed away at 75; the cause of death has been revealed
Bonnie Tyler rose to fame with her superhit songs such as Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for A Hero and It's a Heartache. As per an official Facebook page post of Bonnie, her family and team were heartbroken after her unexpected passing in hospital on July 8, 2026. The post can be read as:
"Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for. We will issue a further statement shortly, but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy."
For those who don't know, Bonnie underwent an emergency intestinal surgery in May 2026, and she was put on a medically induced coma. The family later announced that the singer was out of her coma in June 2026. But she remained unwell and was in a hospital in Portugal. It is worth mentioning that Bonnie spent her last days in the hospital as she was extremely ill after the surgery complications.
As soon as the news of her death surfaced, her fans expressed their pain. Many broke down; one user on Reddit wrote, "Oh, that's very sad. One of the most distinctive voices in music." A second one penned, "This is really sad. I saw she’d woken up from her coma and was really hoping she’d pull through."
A third one penned, "75 isn’t too old these days. That’s a shame. I’ve seen a few anecdotes about her through the years and all of them involve her being funny and kind and a star. RIP Bonnie. " A fourth user commented, "She had emergency surgery in May and was put into an induced coma for a period of time. She was very ill recently, unfortunately."
Another netizen wrote, "This one shocked me even though she had been ill recently. I'm just listening to Lost In France. One of her early, lesser-known songs. Her voice sounded very different in this. Such a shame." Bonnie Tyler was survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan. He is a property developer and a former Olympian and had participated in Judo at the 1972 Olympics. The couple met in a club in 1970, and got married in 1973.
