With Bill's rising fame, Milene was popularly known among Pirates fans as Mazeroski's most loyal supporter. She was often present during some of the most significant moments of his career, including the historic 1960 World Series. According to some reports in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, when Bill Mazeroski hit the legendary walk-off home run that won the championship, some fans in the stands rushed to congratulate Milene because of their bond. Bill Mazeroski and Milene Mazeroski first met in the late 1950s when the team's manager, Danny Murtaugh, reportedly noticed Bill's interest in Milene. Despite the former champion's shyness, Danny encouraged him to ask her out. The couple tied the knot on October 11, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Braddock, Pennsylvania. Their relationship lasted for more than 65 years, making it one of the longest-running marriages in professional baseball. 

The couple raised two sons, Darren and David Mazeroski. Eventually, they welcomed four grandchildren. Darren followed in his father's footsteps and pursued his career in baseball. He presently works as a baseball coach and scout. On the other hand, David allegedly pursued science. The family lived in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for decades before relocating to Lansdale in 2019 to be closer to their grandchildren. Amid everything, Milene had a constant presence in Bill's life even after he retired from baseball in 1972. She supported his transition into coaching and mentoring roles and remained closely connected to the Pirates community. She died on May 19, 2024, at the age of 85, marking a significant loss for Bill Mazeroski, who lived more than half of his life with her. 

What caused Bill Mazeroski's death at 89?

Bill Mazeroski passed away less than a year after Milene's death, adding another chapter to their shared story. According to the Hindustan Times and MLB.com, he had never disclosed suffering from any specific disease. Subsequently, some news outlets attributed his death to natural complications related to his advanced age. The Baseball Hall of Fame and the Pittsburgh Pirates organisation both confirmed his death.
