'Bhooth Bangla' Ending Explained, Myth Of 'Vadhusur' Through The Shadows Of Mangalpur, Find Out

Bhooth Bangla marked the collaboration of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after 16 years. The duo’s last film was Khatta Meetha, released in 2010. The combination always contributed to good collections at the box office, with cult classic entertainers like Garam Masala, De Dana Dan, Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and more. The horror-comedy witnessed multiple delays before its release at the big screen on April 17, 2026.

After its successful run in the theatres, Bhooth Bangla is finally arriving on Netflix. The movie will be available for streaming on the platform from June 12, 2026. Apart from playing the lead, Akshay Kumar has also produced the film along with Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor. ‘Arjun’ is introduced to Mangalpur under certain circumstances

The beginning of the movie features a short glimpse of Mangalpur, which is known for the existence of a demon named ‘Vadhusur,’ who abducts the newlywed brides and kills them. After a scary sequence of a bride being taken away and killed, ‘Arjun,’ played by Akshay Kumar, is introduced. He stays with his father, ‘Vasudev,’ and sister ‘Meera’ in London. ‘Arjun’ is working to pay his debts, and he finally finds an opportunity to end his troubles.

‘Arjun’ and ‘Meera’ are informed by a lawyer that their grandfather, ‘Dushyant,’ has left a property for them in Mangalpur. Notably, ‘Dushyant’ passed away after maintaining no contact with people for a long time. Apart from paying his debts, ‘Arjun’ also aims to organise a destination wedding at the Mangalpur palace for his sister.

‘Arjun’ arrives in India to check the property. He is warned multiple times about ‘Vadhusur.’ However, he still decides to continue with the wedding as planned. Although ‘Arjun’ tries his best to bring people and make them renovate the property for the wedding celebrations, they leave due to fear. In between that, the palace caretaker, ‘Shantaram,’ reveals the story behind ‘Vadhusur.’

How was ‘Vadhusur’ born?

Once upon a time, a child was born to an 'Asur Kanya' and a 'Dev Putra.' However, the gods and demons were not ready to accept the child. The mother escaped while she was attacked, and she eventually gave the responsibility of the child to the 'King of Darkness,' who decided to keep the child hidden under a shield of bats deep in the jungle. The child grew up without any interaction with human beings. But he became a devotee of Lord Shiva.

After frequently worshipping Lord Shiva, he received the boon of immortality. However, he can be killed only by his own hands or by something that is linked to him. The boon made him extremely powerful, and he started attacking the Gods, who approached Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu sent an ‘Apsara,’ and while ‘Vadhusur’ developed feelings for her, the latter told him to marry her. On the day of the marriage, ‘Vadhusur’ was stabbed by the bride with a dagger, following which he was buried below the ground.

Tribes that were involved in black magic tried to revive ‘Vadhusur’ by establishing a temple in the same place. The ‘Apsara’ intervened in the process by changing herself into a big tree near the temple and put her hands underground with the help of the lightning power. While ‘Vadhusur’ was not resurrected, his soul did not leave Earth and started targeting the newlywed brides.

Who is ‘Arjun’s’ biological father?

The film goes to another flashback when audiences get to know that ‘Dushyant’ has not died and ‘Arjun’ was not born to ‘Vasudev.’ In the past, ‘Vasudev’ was a disciple of ‘Dushyant’, who also had a son named ‘Madhav.’ The bond between the trio took a different turn when ‘Vasudev’ and a girl named ‘Yashoda’ fell for each other. However, they were unaware of the fact that ‘Madhav’ was also in love with the same girl. ‘Madhav’ became frustrated when ‘Dushyant’ announced ‘Vasudev’ and ‘Yashoda’s’ engagement.

‘Madhav’ knew everything about ‘Vadhusur,’ including that his father found a way to control the demon’s powers by playing the Shiv chants. But the powers of ‘Vadhusur’ can be increased if the chants are played in reverse. ‘Madhav’ did the same and was caught red-handed by his father. ‘Madhav’ asked his father to get him married to ‘Yashoda’, who later found the real face of her husband. She shifted to the US with ‘Vasudev’ and was pregnant at the same time. While ‘Yashoda’ passed away, ‘Vasudev’ decided to keep the past hidden from his family.

What happens at the end of Bhooth Bangla?

Despite finding the hidden truth about his family, ‘Arjun’ does not stop the wedding. But the aim is to end ‘Vadhusur’ once and for all. To achieve this, the marriage must be done before sunset, and the Ganga River needs to be crossed at the same time, which will prevent the demon from attacking the bride. Although precautions are taken, ‘Vadhusur’ manages to abduct ‘Meera.’ After a lot of failed efforts, ‘Arjun’ manages to save his sister from being killed.

While the chaos related to ‘Vadhusur’ has ended, ‘Arjun’ finds another truth. He met a girl named ‘Priya’ when he was traveling to Mangalpur and fell for her. The duo continued meeting on a few other occasions. When ‘Arjun’ proposes to ‘Priya,’ she fails to recall certain events and reveals that she is already married. ‘Priya’ then tells ‘Arjun’ that she had a twin sister named ‘Chitra,’ who was killed by ‘Vadhusur’ years ago.
