Late Irrfan Khan's son, Babil Khan made his acting debut with the film, Qala. Following this, he worked in a few films and web series, including The Umesh Chronicles and The Railway Men. Now, he is all set to be seen in the upcoming film, Friday Night Plan, co-starring Juhi Chawla and Vatsal Neelakantan. The film will start premiering on Netflix on September 1, 2023. Ahead of that, in a detailed conversation, Babil opened up about the comparisons he faced and also revealed some of his heartfelt wishes related to his father.
In an interview with Film Companion, Babil Khan was asked if comparisons with his iconic father, Irrfan Khan, delayed his acting debut. To this, Babil revealed that he was always scared of his father's greatness, which was the sole reason that the doting son took time to accept his desire to act. Babil explained:
“You don’t know you have that passion inside you, you need life experiences to push you towards your passion. I used to fear his greatness. As a 16 year old when you start realising you want to do something with your life and your father is already a larger-than-life figure… That’s why it took me so long to confront my own passion, my own desire.”

Addressing his father, Irrfan Khan’s remarkable legacy, Babil elaborated that the former used to react instinctively. However, the Qala actor has an instinctive ability. Thus, his unique qualities set him apart from his late father. Babil shared:
“He took a lot of time. People saw him when he was in his 30s and 40s. He took a long time to react instinctively, his process was more intellectual. I have the instinctive ability, I am good at trusting my instincts. But when you are on set, when the pressure is mounting on you that’s the place where your fearlessness really shows. I am still to realise the complete potential of my instincts but I know at my core that’s my USP.”
During the same conversation, Babil shared that he would always desire to have his beloved father witness his accomplishments. Reflecting on how Babil wants to make him feel proud, Babil expressed that he misses his father's smile. In Babil's words:
“I wish you were here to see what I have grown up to be, you left before I could make you proud. That feeling of not being able to show him my work, and not being able to see him smile at what I have become, I am not saying that I have become something, just me as a person.”

Earlier, in an interview with BBC Asia Network, Irrfan Khan's son, Babil Khan revealed that he gives auditions to get work. Mentioning his privileges, Babil stated that he makes sure he doesn't abuse his privileges. Elaborating more about it, Babil recalled an incident and revealed how once a producer was shocked to see him giving auditions despite being the son of Irrfan Khan. Talking about the same, the actor mentioned that the producer was totally mesmerised by his audition video. Babil further added how he works hard and trains himself diligently to become a better actor.
