For the unversed, the sequel to the 2007 film, Awarapan is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14, 2026. The upcoming film stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. Before going into the story of Awarapan 2, it is important to know the main character, 'Shivam Pandit' (played by Emraan Hashmi), who is the heart of the franchise. The 2007 film revolves around a hitman named 'Shivam Pandit' who works for a gangster, 'Malik'. However, the twist in the tale comes when a woman named 'Aliyah' enters 'Shivam's' life. 'Aliyah' is Muslim, and her family strongly opposes her relationship with 'Shivam'. Despite the odds, the duo falls in love with each other. In a tragic turn of events, 'Aliyah' gets killed when her father attempts to shoot 'Shivam'.
This incident left 'Shivam' consumed with immense grief and guilt. Some time later, while he is still struggling to move on, 'Shivam' gets reminded of his doomed love story with 'Reema', the mistress of 'Malik'. However, 'Reema' secretly loves 'Bilal'. As time passed, 'Malik' senses betrayal and asks 'Shivam' to pay close attention to 'Reema's' whereabouts. Initially loyal to 'Malik', 'Shivam' informs him about 'Reema' and 'Bilal's' relationship. Knowing this, 'Malik' orders his men to kill 'Reema' and her lover, 'Bilal'.
Things change drastically when 'Shivam' confronts 'Reema'. Her situation seemed like that of 'Shivam's' late lady-love, 'Aliyah'. Thus, 'Shivam' for the first time goes against 'Malik' and decides to let 'Reema' live her life with 'Bilal'. After the chain of events, 'Malik' gets killed and 'Shivam' is fatally injured. The story of Awarapan 2 will continue from where things ended in Part 1.
Awarapan 2 will show how 'Shivam' gets healed after sustaining serious injuries. In fact, the teaser shows, 'Shivam' saying, "Kuch logon ki kahaniya unki marzi se khatam nahi hoti, unki kahani doosron ke liye likhi jaati hai." This time, 'Shivam' will embark on a different journey with new characters joining in. Disha Patani as 'Zara' will be seen in a prominent role, and Shabana Azmi as 'Nafisa' will also play an important role. The teaser also shows 'Shivam' saying, "Iss baar ya toh yeh Awarapan khatam hoga, ya main."

The sequel has already created buzz on social media. A user wrote, "'Iss Baar Ya Toh Ye Awarapan Khatam Hoga Yaa Main' literally gave me goosebumps- a blockbuster." A fan of Emraan Hashmi took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and wrote:
"I don’t think people will ever understand what this moment means to an #Emraan Hashmi fan. Since 2013, we’ve waited. Year after year, film after film, through every high and every low, we kept waiting for that one moment when Emraan would come back to the box office the way we always knew he could. There were times when the numbers hurt. There were films we wished had received more love. There were years when watching an Emraan Hashmi film become a BIG box office event again felt like a distant dream."
The fan continued, "But we never stopped believing. And now, after all these years, that dream is standing right in front of us with Awarapan 2. And maybe that is what makes this so emotional. Because Awarapan isn’t just another film getting a sequel. It is a film that has lived with us for years. Shivam has lived with us."
Explaining it further, the fan penned, "Its music, its pain, its dialogues, its ending- everything about it became a part of an entire generation. This film is close to the producers. It is close to Emraan. But most importantly, it is incredibly close to us, the fans who never stopped carrying Awarapan in our hearts."
