The news of Kuku Kohli's death was confirmed by his close friend and filmmaker, Ashoke Pandit.

Aruna Irani's husband and filmmaker Kuku Kohli died at the age of 77 in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Ashoke Pandit shared a note on Instagram and revealed that his heart breaks to announce the passing of filmmaker Kuku Kohli. He penned that he lost a great friend and a great filmmaker. His note can be read as:
"My heart is breaking as I announce the passing of filmmaker Kuku Kohli. Today, I have lost a great friend and a great filmmaker."
In an interview with HT City, Ashoke Pandit revealed that Kuku Kohli wasn't ill but he died due to a massive heart attack. He also clarified that he was hale and hearty before his passing. For the unversed, Kuku Kohli was serving as the General Secretary of the Indian Film And TV Director's Association.

Ashoke Pandit called it a great loss for the film fraternity and also extended his condolences to Kohli's wife, Aruna Irani and his daughter, Karishma Kohli and Pooja Kohli from his first marriage to Rita Kohli. The last darshan will be held at Green Acres, Lokhandwala at 9:30 am on August 26, 2026, followed by cremation at Oshiwara Crematorium at 10:30 am.
For those who don't know, Kuku Kohli's real name was Avtar Kohli. He was a famous filmmaker, writer and screenwriter and has given super hit films over the past three decades. He made his directorial debut with Phool Aur Kaante in 1991, and it launched Ajay Devgn. Later, he directed hit films such as Kohraam, Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Zulmi, Anari No. 1, Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa and Woh Tera Naam Tha.

For those who don't know, Aruna Irani fell in love with already-married Kuku Kohli. She was 40 years old when she met Kuku Kohli, and their freindship soon turned into love. The couple tied the knot in secret as Kuku Kohli was already married to Rita Kohli but they were having their own issues.
However, after marrying him, she did not publicly revealed that she is married to Kuku Kohli as he was already married then. She added that her affair with Kuku Kohli was not to snatch him from somebody or hurt anybody. But it was after the death of his first wife, Rita, that she started telling people about her marraige with Kuku Kohli.

Aruna Irani and Kuku Kohli got married in 1990 and it was his second marriage. The couple chose not to have any children together, and Kohli is blessed with two daughter, Pooja and Karishma Kohli from his first marriage. She was quoted as saying:
"I didn't tell anyone about our marriage because he was a married man. I don't know where this stupid news came from that I was not aware of his first marriage. His wife would come on the sets along with the kids. I knew about it. It was a tough decision to make. Somehow we got married. It was not a right decision for us to not have kids. But he fought the world to marry me."
