Anupam Kher recalled how love brewed between him and his wife, Kirron Kher, who was a big star back then and he was just a village boy. He revealed that when he met Kirron, she was already married to her first husband and also had her first child with him. However, things took a turn when Kirron started facing trouble in her marriage. Anupam also shared that they were always best friends before falling in love with each other.
Kirron Kher was first married to Gautam Berry, and they have a son, Sikander Kher. On the other hand, Anupam Kher was married to the actress, Madhumalti Kapoor. In an interview with the ANI, Anupam talked about his first meeting with Kirron. Anupam shared that Kirron was already a star when he met her in Chandigarh. While there was no connection between them, they became best friends and did theatre together.

Anupam added that when problems in her marriage started, things changed between them. However, they always remained best friends. He said:
"I was a simple village boy. Apparently, there was no connection between us. She was married then and had Sikandar (Kher). We used to be best of friends and we did theatres together. Later when she had problems in marriage, I was ditched by the person I was going with, and then things started to change. But we always remain best friends first."
In 2013, Kirron Kher talked about how she fell in love with Anupam Kher while being married to her first husband. She shared that they used to do theatre together in Chandigarh and were best friends. Kirron and Anupam knew everything about each other. Kirron further shared that when her marriage with Gautam Berry hit a rough patch, and Anupam's marriage was also facing trouble, they felt a connection. She recalled the moment when Anupam confessed his feelings for her. He had said:
"I remember we were going to Calcutta for Nadira Babbar’s play, he came looking different, his head was shaved, for some film he was doing, I think. When he was leaving the room, he looked back at me, and something passed between us. Later he came and knocked on my door, and said 'I want to talk to you.' He then said 'I think I have fallen in love with you.' And suddenly there was this immense, intense change, the chemistry exploded. I got a divorce and married him. He had nothing then."
