Anshula Kapoor Blamed Herself For Parents, Boney Kapoor And Mona's Divorce, Was Judged By Aunties

Despite achieving so much in life, Anshula once blamed herself for her parents' separation and went into isolation.
Anshula Kapoor recalls being judged by aunties after her parents' split
When Anshula Kapoor’s parents, Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie had split, Anshula went through an extremely emotional phase. She was judged by the neighbourhood aunties and suddenly felt that people around her had changed. In an interview with The Quint, Anshula recalled the same and revealed:
“I don’t remember a single moment in my life — even as a child — where I didn’t have to be resilient. Navigating the separation of my parents, when nobody really understood what was going on, was a lot. Add to that all those aunties giving you side-eyes and judgy looks, people suddenly going silent when you enter a group, and others just not wanting to talk to you, it does something to you.”
During that phase, Anshula thought that her parents’ marriage didn’t work out because of her. For the longest time, she blamed herself for the split as she said, “I, for the longest time, thought that my parents’ relationship didn’t work out because of me, that I was the root cause of it.” Under confidence seeped in her life and she felt isolated.
This is not the first time that Anshula has spoken about her parents' split and the effect it had on her. When Anshula made her screen debut with reality show, The Traitors, she spoke about the trauma she suffered in school after her father, Boney Kapoor’s second marriage to Sridevi. She stated that families didn’t want to be associated with them and they didn’t even want to send their children to her home. In her words:
“I remember that there was a drastic shift in the way that my classmates were behaving towards me, and the way that their families were behaving towards me. It was a very emotional and a very confusing time to be in school.”
What led to Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie’s split?
Boney Kapoor got married to Mona Shourie in 1983, and soon the couple welcomed two children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. However, Mona’s world turned upside down when her husband fell in love with Sridevi while being married to her. Boney never hid his love for Sridevi from his wife, but his growing closeness with Sridevi shattered Mona’s marital bliss. After 13 years of marriage, Boney and Mona parted ways, and he married Sridevi. They later welcomed two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
Mona suffered a lot after Boney’s betrayal, however, she raised her children Arjun and Anshula with all the love. In March 2012, Mona passed away due to multiple organ failure after battling cancer. On the other hand, Sridevi died a tragic death in 2018 after an accidental drowning.
