Ansel Elgort And Violetta Komyshan: High School Sweethearts, Open Relationship, Not His Baby's Mom?

Hollywood actor, Ansel Elgort has been grabbing the headlines for a reason you might not have seen coming. According to reports, The Fault in Our Stars actor has begun a brand new chapter in his life as a first-time dad. On January 13, 2026, several pictures of Ansel surfaced online showcasing him carrying his newborn during an outing in Manhattan, New York City. Now, on January 17, 2026, a source confirmed to People that it was indeed the 31-year-old's first baby. However, it is worth noting that any other details about the baby, including the name and s*x, have yet to be disclosed.  

At the moment, we are also not too sure about who the mother of Ansel's child is. The photos obtained by TMZ of his rare public outing, however, showed him next to a woman who seems to be his new partner. While his outing with the mystery woman is capturing the internet's attention, many have also started to wonder about Ansel's previous romance with his ex-girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan, with whom he was together for 10 years before breaking up. Ansel Elgort and Violetta Komyshan were high school sweethearts. They first met in 2011 when they were attending LaGuardia High School. During a 2017 interview with Cosmopolitan, Violetta recounted the story and said that she thought Ansel had an eye on her because they were in the same lunch period. It was during her freshman year that she bumped into Ansel, not realising he went to the same school as her. However, the moment she laid eyes on him, she thought that “he was really attractive.” Only after sharing her thoughts with her friend did Violetta learn that they both went to LaGuardia. Interestingly, Ansel waited for Violetta the very next day after school and had their mutual friend introduce them.

In the same interview with Cosmopolitan, Violetta also confessed that she and Ansel were quick to exchange numbers and become friends after their initial introduction. It wasn't until a year later that they went from friends to lovers. Violetta revealed that she and Ansel actually started dating at the end of her sophomore year, in 2012.

Ansel Elgort and Violetta Komyshan had no intention of keeping their relationship out of the public eye. This was evident when, soon after they started dating, the duo made their red carpet debut as a couple at the premiere of the film, Falling For You. The premiere was hosted by Target in Ansel and Violetta's hometown, New York City, on October 10, 2012.

Three years later, on February 14, 2015, Ansel and Violetta celebrated Valentine's Day in an unconventional way. Instead of going out on a romantic dinner or something similar, the former couple were seen getting cosy at a basketball game. The game in question was held at Brooklyn's Barclays Centre. Just a few days later, Ansel allegedly referenced his relationship with Violetta while talking about what he looks for in a relationship in a February 18, 2015, interview with Elle. He said: 

"I prefer being with a girlfriend long-term. I prefer to be with someone I can trust. I'm more into that. If you like someone and the s*x is really good, and you enjoy spending time together, why wouldn't you make that person your girlfriend? Why go around dating random girls and having terrible s*x when you can be with someone you really like?"

On February 6, 2017, Violetta and Ansel starred together in a music video. Many might not be aware, but Ansel, apart from being an actor, also sings and DJs under the name of Ansolo. It was for the music video of his song, Thief, that he and Violetta shared the screen together. The clip, which showed them sharing intimate moments, has since been deleted.

Although in his 2015 interview with Elle, Ansel claimed that he preferred staying with one partner for a long time, a few years later she surprised everyone when he revealed that he has an open relationship with his girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan. Speaking to The Times in 2019, he stated that he would like “to find a lot more love” in the upcoming years. Noting that he and Violetta were on the same page, Ansel said:  

"It doesn't need to be s**ual. I could be done s**ually with my girlfriend. I think we've been pretty clear that I want to feel free to fall in love with people and that [option] should be open, but sexually it can be closed off." 

Ansel Elgort and Violetta Komyshan sparked breakup rumours  

In a shocking turn of events, Ansel Elgort was accused of se**ally as**lting a woman named Gabby in 2020. She claimed that the incident happened in 2014 when she was a minor, being 17 years of age. Although Ansel vehemently denied the allegations, at the time, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Violetta had started to delete most of the photos with her then-boyfriend from her Instagram. This led them to spark breakup rumours. However, on November 29, 2021, the pair put an end to the rumours by appearing side by side, walking the red carpet of the N.Y.C. premiere of West Side Story.

In August 2022, TMZ obtained photos of Ansel Elgort kissing a woman in Italy. However, the woman in the photos did not appear to be the Baby Driver star's girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan. With the internet abuzz with speculation about Violetta and Ansel's split, the former confirmed the rumours during a November 2022 interview with E! News. Saying that she and Ansel have officially broken up, Violetta opened up about her single life, stating: 

"I'm 26, so right now is the age to push ahead and focus on that — on yourself."
