Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona home since February 1, 2026. After initial investigation, the Pima County Sheriff's Department officially transitioned the missing-persons case to a criminal investigation, by sharing that Nancy was taken from her home against her will. Recent reports suggested that Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie and the latter's husband, Tommaso Cioni, are suspected of being involved in the case. Amid the buzz, the suspects were spotted in public.
According to reports by media outlets like Times Now World, Nancy Guthrie's daughter, Annie Guthrie and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, were the first family members of the 84-year-old to be spotted publicly after Anne's disappearance was reported. Photographs shared by Page Six in February 2026 show Annie and Tommaso leaving their Tucson, Arizona, home in a dark-colored Honda SUV. The couple appeared visibly tense and took measures to conceal their faces from photographers. Annie Guthrie wore a pink hoodie and was attempting to shield her face. Tommaso Cioni wore black shades and pulled his shirt or sweatshirt up over his mouth and nose.

The outing occurred shortly after journalist, Ashleigh Banfield claimed on her podcast that Cioni was a "prime suspect," citing an unverified law enforcement source. Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, were among the last people to see Nancy Guthrie before she disappeared from her Tucson home on January 31, 2026. Tommaso reportedly drove Nancy home after a family dinner on Saturday night and confirmed that she was safely inside at approximately 9:30 p.m. Ashleigh Banfield reported that a trusted source considered him a "prime suspect" because he was the last known person to be with Savannah Guthrie's mother.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has repeatedly stated that there are currently no named suspects or persons of interest in the case. Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasised that they are "looking at everyone" who had contact with Nancy as a standard procedure. Authorities have interviewed family members and reportedly impounded a vehicle as part of the investigation. On February 4, 2026, law enforcement (including the FBI) searched the Tucson home of Annie and Tommaso.

Officers were seen using a forensic data extraction device and carrying out boxes of items, though officials noted this does not necessarily imply that the couple were involved in the mysterious disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's ailing mother. The investigation remains active, with the FBI assisting local authorities in verifying an alleged ransom note and analysing evidence found at Nancy's home, including smashed security cameras.

Reporters at TMZ reportedly received an unverified ransom note regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, on the morning of February 3, 2026. The note demands millions of dollars in Bitcoin (cryptocurrency) to be sent to a specific Bitcoin address for her safe release. The letter reportedly contained precise personal details about Nancy and her home. The details included a description of an item the sender said was damaged at Nancy Guthrie's Tucson home, as well as what Nancy was wearing when she disappeared. TMZ reportedly handed over the ransom demand to the police.

The initial investigation into the disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie revealed evidence of a "nighttime kidnapping." The Pima County Sheriff's Office confirmed there was evidence of forced entry at Nancy Guthrie's home and is coordinating with the FBI. Police believe she was taken from her home against her will. As details of her limited mobility, including the fact that she "couldn't walk 50 yards by herself", were shared by her daughter, it ruled out the possibility that Nancy wandered off. Notably, Nancy Guthrie's cellphone, wallet, and vehicle were all still at the residence when she vanished.
Nancy's items were treated as forensic evidence, and DNA samples were collected and processed. However, the early results matched only Nancy Guthrie herself and did not point to a specific suspect. Amid that, some conflicting reports emerged regarding a "blood trail" at the scene; while some sources reported it, the sheriff declined to provide specific details on blood evidence. As the latest details regarding a ransom note surfaced, the Guthrie family asked everyone for prayers.

Investigators have not received any updates on Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts, even five days after her disappearance. The Guthrie family still awaits some hopeful news.
