Amid this, let's look back at the time when Anne actually wanted to keep her pregnancy a secret while filming a film, and she reacted when she was asked to wear a tight outfit to flaunt her cinched waist. Anne Hathaway was in the first trimester of her second pregnancy when she was shooting for The Witches. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Anne Hathaway revealed that she didn't tell anybody about her pregnancy until she was five weeks pregnant. Following this, when she was in her second trimester, she revealed the news to some of the cast members; however, since all her clothes fit, she didn't feel the need to break the news to anybody. She said:

"I didn’t really tell anybody that I was pregnant because I was still in my first trimester. Then, when I went into my second trimester during filming, I only told a couple of people. But the costume still fit so I didn’t feel the need to tell anybody."

In an interview on Live with Ryan and Kelly, Anne said that it was during the costume planning that she had to come up with some 'excuses' as she was asked to wear tight waistlines and a corset by the costume designer Joanna Johnston for shooting purposes, as Hathaway's character needed to have a cinched waist. Well, Anne, who still didn't break the news about her pregnancy, said 'no' to it, but came up with an excuse, so she said that she needed to feel free, and she won't feel the same way if she's constrained around her waist, so everything should be loose instead. Anne revealed:

"She goes, 'I really want you to have a really tight waist.' And I had just found out that I was pregnant and I was like, 'Mmm, no. No, I don't think so. No.' And she was like, 'Well, why?' And I was like, 'Eh, you know, I just know myself.' I'm scrambling for a reason. And I'm like, 'I just know myself and I know that I won't be as free. I won't be as free if I'm constrained around my middle, so we just better make everything very loose.'"

In the same interview, Anne Hathaway said that when she gave this excuse to the costume designer, she didn't ask anything from the actress, even when she spoon-fed her 'a bunch of BS'. Well, when she was 16 weeks pregnant, the costume designer got to know about her pregnancy.

Soon after Anne Hathaway announced her third pregnancy, an old statement of hers started doing the rounds on social media. In the interview, Anne Hathaway revealed why she actually announced her two pregnancies. It was in 2025, when speaking to PEOPLE, Anne Hathaway revealed that she had to take a step as someone took her photo, and at that point, speculation was already up about her pregnancy.

The actress said that after she saw that someone took the street shots, she felt that it was the time that she would have to announce her pregnancy. She also recalled discussing the same with her husband, as she felt that was a good use of social media, and it felt a personal thing to put out there, and an announcement for herself rather than something else.
