Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe news of Anne Hathaway’s third pregnancy with her husband, Adam Shulman, has left fans pleasantly surprised, especially with how gracefully the actress concealed her pregnancy all this time. And for fans who have followed the Les Misérables star’s journey all this time, the news has been an emotional one, given Hathaway’s years of struggle with fertility.
The actress has never shied away from speaking about the difficult journey that came before her growing family. Years before her third pregnancy, Hathaway opened up about experiencing fertility struggles, a heartbreaking miscarriage, and her long-held dream of becoming a mother through both biological and adopted children.

Long before becoming a mother, Hathaway had spoken publicly about her desire to build a large family. In a 2013 interview, the actress revealed that she hoped to have both biological and adopted children, explaining that motherhood had been one of her biggest dreams since her teenage years.

At the time, Hathaway, 30, said she wanted "as many children as I can afford," while emphasizing that she hoped every child would feel equally loved and special. She also expressed her intention to adopt. She said:
"I've wanted to be a mom since I was 16. I’m 30, and I want to have a family of a certain size. I’ll start with one healthy kid but I’d like to have a few naturally and adopt… I’d like to have as many as I can afford, not just financially but in terms of time, because you want to make sure each one feels special. I’ve had one goal in mind for the past 12 years, which is — get a movie, get a movie, get a movie. Now I might have to say — get a baby, get a baby, get a baby."

When Hathaway announced her second pregnancy in 2019, she chose not to present it as a simple fairytale moment. Instead, the Oscar-winning actress candidly discussed the emotional challenges she faced while trying to conceive. Explaining how successful pregnancies often don't reveal the difficult road many families have to travel, Hathaway said at that time:

“I think that we have a very one-size-fits-all approach to getting pregnant. And you get pregnant and for the majority of cases, this is a really happy time. But a lot of people who are trying to get pregnant: That’s not really the story. Or that’s one part of the story. And the steps that lead up to that part of the story are really painful and very isolating and full of self-doubt. And I went through that.”
The Devil Wears Prada star described the process as "painful," "isolating," and filled with self-doubt, adding that she personally experienced those emotions while trying to expand her own family.

Years after her tragic loss, Hathaway revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage in 2015, before she welcomed her first son, Jonathan. The experience became even more challenging because she was performing in the one-woman play Grounded at the time, where she played a pregnant woman whose character gave birth on stage.
Reflecting on that period, Hathaway admitted it became impossible to pretend everything was fine behind the scenes. The actress later shared that opening up about the loss helped her process the experience and connect with others facing similar struggles. Her honesty resonated with thousands of women who praised the actress for speaking openly about a topic that is often discussed behind closed doors.

Hathaway married actor and jewellery designer Adam Shulman in 2012. The couple welcomed their first son, Jonathan, in 2016, followed by their second son, Jack, in 2019. Now expecting baby No. 3, Hathaway's latest chapter at age 43 arrives after years of personal challenges, heartbreak, and undaunting resilience.

As Hathaway prepares to welcome another child, many fans are revisiting the deeply personal journey she bravely shared years ago, one that provided a beam of hope to thousands of struggling women worldwide.
Congratulations, Anne and Adam, on baby No.3!
