A while back, Anne took to her Instagram handle to announce that she is expecting her third child with Adam Shulman. The couple is already parents of two sons, Jonathan and Jack. Amid this, Anne’s old statement about her painful fertility struggles resurfaces.
Back in July 2019, Anne Hathaway announced that she was expecting her second child with her husband, Adam Shulman. At the time, she sat for an interview with the Associated Press. During the interview, Anne got candid about her painful fertility struggles. She explained that after getting pregnant, while many women get happy, it is not always the case with every woman. Some also struggle with isolation and self-doubt, and she was one of them. Anne was quoted as saying:
"I think that we have a very one-size-fits-all approach to getting pregnant. And you get pregnant, and for the majority of cases, this is a really happy time. But a lot of people who are trying to get pregnant: That’s not really the story. Or that’s one part of the story. And the steps that lead up to that part of the story are really painful and very isolating and full of self-doubt. And I went through that."

Earlier, this year, in April 2026, Anne Hathaway sat for an interview with People. During the interview, she got emotional as she opened up about motherhood. The Devil Wears Prada 2 actress mentioned that she felt very lucky, and her two pregnancies went really well. When asked if she could pinpoint the most beautiful part about motherhood, Anne paused for a moment and said that identifying a single moment would be difficult to say. She was quoted as saying:
"I just feel very lucky. I know that not everybody who wants to be a parent gets to be. I’m just blown away by how fortunate I am. It went really well for me twice, and that’s really lucky. I couldn't imagine identifying a single most. Being a mom is just this beautiful ongoing poem that I get to live inside of."

Anne Hathaway’s first pregnancy was painful as it ended in a miscarriage. Anne suffered a miscarriage in 2015. At the time, she was performing in the play Grounded, in which her character becomes pregnant and gives birth. Every night, Anne had to act out childbirth, while in real life was navigating the loss of her unborn child. In an interview with Variety, Anne shared that she pretended everything was okay when she performed on stage, but she was struggling emotionally. However, she broke down in front of her friends backstage. She said, "It was too much to keep it in."

In an interview with People, Anne Hathaway shared her favourite parts about being a boy mom. She mentioned that, as she is a tomboy, being a boy mom influenced her fashion choices. From business meetings to going to a basketball court, she has learned a lot after becoming a boy mom. She was quoted as saying:

"I’m a tomboy! I love that being a boy mom has really informed my fashion. I have to always be able to go from a serious business meeting to, like, a basketball court. You have to be able to play pickup basketball at any point, in any outfit."
