Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput had become everyone’s favourite with the portrayal of Manav and Archana in Pavitra Rishta. However, it was their real-life Pavitra Rishta that had made them an ideal couple. Their understanding, maturity level, chemistry and the way they had handled each other had made their relationship a perfect one. However, just when their fans were waiting for them to announce their wedding, the couple had announced their breakup and had parted ways.
Even though the two had called off their relationship, there was still something connecting Ankita with Sushant as the two had always prayed for each other’s best. Their Pavitra Rishta might not have survived the testing times, but things had ended for them forever, when on June 14, 2020, Sushant was found dead in his apartment. Since then, we have seen Ankita fight to bring justice for him and often being trolled by his fans for living her life. Now, the actress has bared her heart and has shared how she had sacrificed her career for the sake of her late ex-beau, Sushant Singh Rajput.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ankita Lokhande shared how she had started giving up on big Bollywood films like Bajirao Mastani, Happy New Year, and Sultan as she wanted to be with Sushant Singh Rajput and had wanted him to grow. Narrating how she had given up on Happy New Year to be strong support for Sushant, she said, “I gave up on many things. I gave up on Happy New Year. I remember Farah (Khan) ma’am had offered me this film. I had met Shah Rukh Khan sir also. He had assured to give me the best debut. But back of the mind, I was in Macao, Sushant, Shah Rukh sir and I. I was like Bhagwan mera naa ho yaar, because I was like literally. Ladki kaisi hoti hai naa, nahi yaar mere partner ka acha ho. I mean that’s what yu think. Till today, I have no regrets, I have no regrets. I was just trying to build a man, and I did that. I was just trying to be very strong support of Sushant, and I did that.”
She also narrated that she had refused roles in Raam Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Sultan. Recalling how Sanjay Leela Bhansali had told her to do Bajirao Mastani and she had declined, saying that she wanted to get married, Ankita said, “I remember Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) sir telling me ‘Kar le Bajirao Mastani, warna bohot pachtayegi.’ He was praising me, and Sanjay sir saying this is a very big thing. But, I was like, ‘Nahi sir, mujhe shaadi karni hai.’ He did not have anything to say then. I quitted on it.”
Ankita shared that it was after her breakup with Sushant that she had realised her worth and that she has to work for herself in the industry. She said, “But then I realised, no yaar, me bhi toh kuch hoon. After my breakup I understood my value. So, it’s very important to understand your worth. Shayad mujhe aaj tak meri worth nahi pata. But, then I realised that I should work on myself, it is very important. I did Pavitra Rishta for 7 long years, but even after that people thought that I wanted to leave work. That was the moment, when I realised that now I need to work.”
In the same interview, Ankita had also revealed the reason behind her break-up with Sushant. Ankita had admitted that her silence over this question for all this time had backfired her. The actress had revealed that it was her late ex-beau, who had asked for the break-up. Ankita had said, "People misunderstood me. People today come and tell me 'you left Sushant' How do they know this? Nobody knows my story. I am not blaming anyone here. Sushant made his choice very clear, he wanted to go ahead in his career, and he chose it and moved on. But for two and a half years, I was dealing with so many things. I was not in that state of mind where I could just work. I am not that person who could have easily moved on and started working. So, for me, it was very difficult, but my family stood by me."
Ankita Lokhande had made her Bollywood debut with Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and was also seen in Baaghi 3. She is yet to sign her third film!
