Anjali Arora, Who Faced 19-Minute Video Scandal Is Cast In 'Ramayan Katha' As 'Sita', Netizens React

Anjali Arora, the viral internet sensation known as the 'kacha badam girl', is all set to present herself in a brand-new avatar. She has been cast as the character of 'Sita maa' in Shree Ramayan Katha. The upcoming movie by Abhishek Sharma has unveiled the first look still of Anjali, who almost looks unrecognisable. The actress and social media star's fans praise her new look, while many netizens expressed their disapproval of the casting. The mythological character 'Sita' is held in great reverence in Hinduism, and many felt the director could have chosen a different lead actress who wasn't linked to viral controversies, such as Anjali Arora.

Anjali Arora's first look as 'Sita' from Shree Ramayan Katha is revealed

Abhishek Sharma's Shree Ramayan Katha is a futuristic drama that offers a cinematic retelling of the timeless epic, focusing on Lord Ram's emotional journey and life events. The film's teasers were unveiled in October 2025 during the Dussehra festival and generated buzz, as the beloved mythological story is set to come to life again on the silver screen on Diwali 2026. Following that, Anjali Arora's first look as 'Sita' has also been unveiled, in which the influencer-turned-actress is seen wearing a traditional saffron saree draped in a village-style manner, with the pallu covering her head like a veil.

Anjali's look is characterised by minimal makeup, a red bindi, gold earrings, and simple gold bangles. She is shown holding a basket of fruits (including bananas, apples, and oranges) against a rural, natural backdrop, which suggests the "Aranya Kanda" phase of Ramayana, which chronicles Lord Rama's 14-year life in exile, including his journey into the Dandaka forest along with his wife, Sita, and brother, Lakshmana. Anjali Arora's look quickly went viral, earning mixed reactions, mostly criticism.

Why are netizens criticising Anjali Arora's casting as 'Sita'?

Netizens are unhappy with Anjali's casting as 'Sita' primarily because of perceived conflicts between her public image and the role's sacred nature. Many online users feel her digital footprint, including her viral Kacha Badam dance and various steamy videos, is incompatible with the divine and pure character of Goddess Sita. Some critics have also labeled Anjali's casting a misfit, arguing that such a revered role requires a more seasoned actor capable of embodying the necessary grace and depth. One called the casting "Bakwas", another stated, "ab kachabadam bnegi sita", and a third commented, "Surpankha ke liye perfect hai ye."

Netizens have also compared Anjali Arora unfavorably to other actresses, such as Sai Pallavi, who has been cast as 'Sita' in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayan. Among the netizen comments, those that went too far mentioned her 19-minute video controversy. Anjali has been distressed by the incident for years and recently presented a statement regarding it.

What was Anjali Arora's 19-minute video controversy about?

The 19-minute video controversy refers to an alleged explicit MMS clip that social media users falsely claimed featured Anjali Arora. The video was a morphed clip created using AI or deepfake technology, and Anjali Arora was not the person in it. Recently, the fabricated video resurfaced amid similar false accusations against other influencers, including Payal Gaming (real name Payal Dhare) and Sweet Zannat. Anjali has publicly supported these creators, noting that the new controversies brought back "painful memories" from her own ordeal. Anjali first faced this nightmare in August 2022, when she was 21.

Anjali has since revealed that the digital misinformation caused severe mental distress and led to her being removed from major professional projects. In January 2024, she filed an FIR and defamation case against various portals and YouTube channels responsible for spreading the fake content. Despite the video being debunked, Anjali stated in December 2025 that she still faces daily abuse, vulgar questions, and "professional backlash" due to the fabricated video someone made for "a minute of entertainment."
