Bihar's Mining Mogul, Anil Agarwal's Son Died Due To Cardiac Arrest At 49, 'Snatched Our Son..'

Anil Agarwal, chairman of Vedanta Group, is the richest man in India. However, he and his family is going through the toughest times of their life as he lost his 49-year-old son. For the unversed, Anil Agarwal lost his son, Agnivesh, due to a sudden cardiac arrest. He was admitted to a Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Anil Agarwal pens heart-wrenching note after losing his only son 

On January 7, 2026, Anil Agarwal took to his social media account X, and called it the darkest day of his life. The mining mogul revealed that his son, Agnivesh was recovering after the skiing accident and his family was sure that they had left the toughtest days of their life behind, but they were wrong. A part of the note can be read as:

"Today is the darkest day of my life. My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us."

Anil Agarwal further stated that no words could describe his pain as a parent who must bid goodbye to his child. He added that a son is not meant to leave before his father. He recalled Agnivesh's birth in his hometown Patna on June 3, 1976, and how his world changed from a humble beginnings to a respected business leader. 

In his tribute post, Anil Agarwal called his son a sportman, musician, and a leader. Anil added that despite all his achievements, his son, remained simple, deeply human. He called him not just his son, but his friend and entire world. "Beyond all his achievements, he remained simple, deeply human and kind. To me, he was not just my son. He was my friend. My pride. My world." Anil added that he and his wife are broken. He recalled his son's belief in India's future. and had taken a pledge to dedicate 75 percent of his earnings to social causes and he will live a simpler life in his memory. His note can be read as:

"We shared a dream to ensure that no child sleeps hungry, no child is denied education, every woman stands on her own feet, and every young Indian has meaningful work. I had promised Agni that more than 75% of what we earn would be given back to society. Today, I renew that promise and resolve to live an even simpler life. Beta, you will live on in our hearts, in our work and in every life you touched."

Agnivesh was born in Patna, Bihar on June 3, 1976. He studied at Mayo college in Ajmer. He went on to establish Fujairah Gold and later served as the chairman of Hindustan Zinc.
