The comedy, Bhooter Bhabishyat, was a massive success, earning him immense praise in the industry. However, lately, the industry was abuzz with rumours that Dutta was suffering from depression. However, Utsav Mukherjee said he did not notice anything when he discussed an upcoming project with him a few days before his passing on May 25, 2026. He was quoted as saying:

"He was worried about his health and at times thought he might not be able to make movies again. But we motivated him, and he started working on his upcoming films. We spoke about ‘Aparajito 2’.
