Who Was Andy Kershaw, Former BBC Radio 1 Presenter, Died At 66? Hounded His Ex-Gf, Mother Of Two

Former BBC Radio 1 DJ and Live Aid Presenter, Andy Kershaw left many in shock with his sudden passing at the age of 66. For the unversed, Any Kershaw was a famous voice on Radio 1 for almost 15 years after making his debut in 1985. Then he went on to report for Radio 4 on music genres and global conflicts. He even reported the 1994 Rwanda Genocide and the civil war in Sierra Leone in 2001.

Who was Andy Kershaw?

Andy was born on November 9, 1959, and he became one of the most important voices on the radio through his famous programs on BBC Radio 1, and then on BCC Radio 3. He was the one who introduced diverse music to the audiences and featured songs from artists from Africa, Asia, and Latin America back in those days. He had a deep knowledge of music and storytelling, which gained him a lot of fame. Apart from his work on the radio, he had also reported on conflict zones and established his reputation as a cultural explorer and journalist. 

Andy Kershaw's relationship with Juliet Banner

Andy Kershaw was in a long-term relationshipw with Juliette Banner, who was a restaurateur. The couple had been together for 17 years and in 2006, he parted ways from her, without his will. The couple was blessed with two children and and even moved in together for a better life. But their relationship ended with a messy separation. 

Andy Kershaw found out that his girlfriend, Juliet Banner was unfaithful in their realtionship. This led to not only his trust breaking down but also tensions esclated to a level that Juliet decided to move out of the home. She not only left Andy, but also took their children with her, which resulted in a bitter separation. As per Andy separation was devastating and he expressed that she was the love of his life and he regretted what happened. Despite, his best efforts to reconcile and following her, Juliet chose to stay away from him. 

However, the final nail in their relationship was when it turned legal as Julie obtained a restraining order against Andy, which prevented him from contacting her. But he kept breaching the order, which led to his multiple arrests and even imprisonment. This not only affected his peace but also his professional life got tensed. After Andy and Juliet's separation, it deeply affected the BBC presenter's relationship with his children. As per him there was limited contact with them, which was extremely tough for him to deal with. He said:

"Can you imagine what it was like a week last Saturday, when it was my son's 11th birthday? I had sent him a card. I had scraped together £20 to put in an envelope for him because I've been away from him so long I don't even know what his tastes and interests are. All I could do was send him some money and I don't really have any money. And waiting and waiting for a phone call that never came. How cruel is that?"

Andy Kershaw's death

Andy Kershaw died on April 16, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. and his family is left heartbroken. Andy was still championing new music with his regular podcast, and he would often joke about his diagnosis. He would say that he felt very positive and was busy planning another podcast. He ever mentioned that he won't die before Benjamin Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Ant’n’Dec.
