Amitabh Bachchan's Monthly Salary In The 60s Was In Four Figures, Lived With 7 Men In A Small Room

Amitabh Bachchan might be one of the wealthiest male actors today, but he used to earn four figures in the 60s. Hailing from a small town, Big B made it big in the industry with his perseverance, strong willpower and talent. This time, Amitabh went off the record and showed us proof of his past salary.

In his heartfelt blog, Big B recalled his old struggling days when he used to work at Kolkata’s Blacker company. Revealing that he used to get Rs. 1640 as his monthly salary in the 1960s, the actor shared a tweet from a fan, which he found on the microblogging site. He felt overwhelmed to discover that such old records were still preserved through so many years. He wrote:

“Look what I found ! Extraordinary...to be maintaining such a file after so many years and after an insignificant tenure at Blacker’s."

Further, in his blog, Amitabh Bachchan took down the memory lane and shared that he used to stay in a 10-by-10 room in Kolkata with seven other men. After office hours, Bachchan would go to check out the popular joints of the city with no money in his hand and would stand there with the hope of getting to enter one fine day. He penned:

“Those days in Calcutta, now Kolkata .. free ..freedom .. freeeessstttt .. just the most independent times ever... 8 of us in a 10' by 10′ room .. those were the days my friend .. office hours, then evening with the guys checking out the joints of popularity .. no money to enter them, but standing around with the hope that someday we shall.”

Amitabh was mischievous in his younger days, and would find smart solutions to every problem. He stated how he used to butter up the gatekeepers by making fake promises to enter the popular joints. Amitabh penned:

“And we did...pooling in...buttering up the gatekeepers... telling them when time improves shall look after them... haha never happened."

Amitabh writes how shooting in the city of joy brings back all the nostalgic memories of his golden days. From revisiting the old streets to meeting with the same old friends, Kolkata holds a special place in Big B’s life. An excerpt from his blog can be read as:

“BUT .. when in new profess .. and the shoot in city .. visiting same places , now getting invited to them .. and the change .. meeting those ol’ times and people and giving them the desired promise of yore .. visiting all the ol’ streets of residence in the middle of the night .. and recollecting each and every spot and what transpired there .. some unpleasant but generally all in the goodness of events .. some friends lost .. some of those times still around .. nostalgia .. and the love of them that remained till the last with us.”
