The home where we grow up, holds a special place in our hearts. It reminds us of the bachpan we had lived that got lost growing up. We all can associate it with endless memories. Amitabh Bachchan is 79 years old and lives in Mumbai. However, his heart resides in his South Delhi home, Sopaan, where he had spent his childhood with his parents, late Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. Now according to media reports, the legendary actor has sold his paternal home in Delhi.
Amitabh Bachchan has made a name for himself and is considered one of the most hardworking actors even at this age. From Jalsa, Janak Palace, Prateeksha, Vatsa and an unnamed property behind Jalsa in India to a mansion in Dubai, and an apartment in Paris, Amitabh Bachchan has many properties under his name. His Delhi home, Sopaan being one amongst them.
Well, according to a report in Economic Times, Amitabh Bachchan has sold his South Delhi family home, 'Sopaan' at Gulmohar Park, Delhi. It is said that he has finalised the deal for a sum of Rs. 23 crore and it has been purchased by the CEO of Nezone group of companies, Avni Bader, who knows the Bachchan family for years. In a conversation with Economic Times, Avni said:
“It’s an old construction, so we will demolish the structure and construct as per our requirements. We have been living in the area for many years and were looking for an additional property. When this offer came, we immediately said yes and acquired the asset.”
Amitabh Bachchan’s father, late poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his mother, late Teji Bachchan used to reside in their double-storey home, Sopaan in Gulmohar Park. It was believed that it was the Bachchan family’s first home. The locals are also said to state that the family used to host poetry sessions in the house till 1980 when Harivansh Rai used to live there.
On January 24, 2021, Amitabh had taken a journey down the memory lane and had remembered his late parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan on their wedding anniversary. Amitabh had penned a blog post for his parents, which could be read as:
"Past the midnight of the 23rd and the 24th has begun .. the Wedding Anniversary of Ma and Babuji. 24th January 1942 .. a marriage that broke barriers, systems created the acceptance of the name Bachchan, beyond caste and creed .. and brought me into this wide world."
In a throwback interview with the IANS, Amitabh had shared that he has no legacy to take and it is his father's legacy that he is interested in. He had said:
"It is coming on to 50 years in public life... That is as far as I am personally concerned. But I have been in public life from the day I was born. I was always the son of Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan, eminent poet, litterateur, having public presence far greater than mine. I have no legacy. My father's legacy is what I am interested in, and I shall try always to further it."
There is no official confirmation about the property being sold from the Bachchan family’s side!
