Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away on December 23, 2025, at 4:48 p.m. at AIIMS, Raipur. His passing has left a deep void as he has been a notable name in Hindi literature. The eminent Hindi writer was admitted to the hospital on December 2, 2025, and the age of 89, he left for the heavenly abode. However, behind Vinod Kumar Shukla's success as a writer, a big role is played by his wife and son. Read on to know more!
Vinod Kumar Shukla was a Chhattisgarh-based Hindi writer, born on January 1, 1937. He was known for his acclaimed novels such as Naukar Ki Kameez, Khilega To Dekhenge, Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi, and Ek Chuppi Jagah. He was hailed as the pillar of Hindi literature, courtesy of his simple, deeply thought-provoking writing style.

For the unversed, Vinod Kumar Shukla was also awarded India's highest literary award, the 59th Jnanpith Award, just a month before his death on November 21, 2025. The ceremony was held at his home in Raipur. Another highlight was that he was the first author from Chhattisgarh to receive the honour. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also met the notable writer, and enquired about his well-being just a month ago. For Vinod Kumar Shukla, he wanted to write a lot, despite penning a good amount of books in Hindi, he never stopped writing. He once said:
"I’ve seen a lot (in life), heard a lot and felt a lot, but I could write only a little. When I think of how much I needed to write… it feels like a lot remains. Till I remain (alive), I want to complete my remaining writings, but I may not be able to finish my work… Due to this, I’m in a great dilemma. I want to pursue my life through my writing, but my life is rapidly approaching its end, and I don’t know how to write that fast, so I feel a bit regretful."

Vinod Kumar Shukla suffered a heart attack at the age of 75, which left him weaker, aand also affected his eyesight. However, nothing could keep him away from his love for books. That's when his wife became his pen. He would dictate his stories and poems to his wife, and his son, Shashwat, would type them on the computer for him. As per Vinod Kumar Shukla, he preferred writing his thoughts for a book rather than on social media. This quality made him a famous name.

Vinod Kumar Shukla, who breathed his last on December 23, 2025, suffered multiple organ infection, followed by organ failure, which took his life as per Laxmikant Choudhary, the PRO of AIIMS Raipur. He was admitted to the hospital on December 2, 2025. His son revealed that Vinod Kumar Shukla suffered breathing issues in October 2025. However, he came back home after his condition stabilised, but his health deteriorated. The famous writer is survived by his wife, son, Shashwat, and his daughter.
