Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna are hailed as the 'IT' couple in the entertainment industry. The lovebirds never leave a chance to paint the town red with their amazing chemistry. And now, Twinkle's childhood best friend, and filmmaker, Karan Johar, revealed that the blockbuster film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is subconsciously inspired by the former and her husband, Akshay Kumar. For the unversed, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani featured Alia Bhatt as 'Rani' and Ranveer Singh as 'Rocky'. The film also featured legendary actors like Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan.
Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has been inspired by several real-life couples, and one of them is Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna. In a candid chat with Mid Day, Karan Johar opened up about his film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Talking about the same, the filmmaker revealed that he may have subconsciously been inspired by Akshay and Twinkle's chemistry while developing the characters, 'Rani and Rocky'. Elaborating more on Twinkle and Akshay's relationship, Karan mentioned that they have a beautiful friendship in their marriage and a distinct kind of comfort. In his words:
"Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I have had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie."

Further, in the same conversation, Karan stated that Akshay and Twinkle find each other hilarious for different reasons and yet they are comfortable in each other's presence. Talking about finding love anywhere, the filmmaker stated that two people could find solace in each other despite belonging to different demographics. Mentioning how people tend to put themselves in boxes, Karan said:
"He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons. So I felt it wasn't impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two starts, to actually find love. It's like we put ourshelves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourshelves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere."
On January 17, 2023, Twinkle and her darling husband, Akshay, celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. And to make the day even more special, the former actress had dropped a video (which she deleted later) on her IG handle. The video featured a glimpse of a beautiful hand-written card which had a cartoon named Tina. Along with the video, Twinkle also revealed that on their 5th date, she had told Akshay that she would never marry a person like him.

For the unversed, Akshay and Twinkle met each other for the first time during the shoot for Filmfare magazine. Though Akshay developed an instant likeness for Twinkle, it was only during the shooting of their film, International Khiladi, that they fell in love. Later, the much-in-love couple tied the knot on January 17, 2001. After a year, Twinkle and Akshay hopped onto their parenthood journey as they welcomed their son, Aarav on September 15, 2002. However, their family got complete after they welcomed their daughter, Nitara on September 25, 2012.
