Alia Bhatt is the daughter of ace filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt and his second wife, Soni Razdan. Unlike her father, the diva has carved her career in the world of acting. She made her debut with Karan Johar's directorial, Student of The Year, in 2012, and since then, she hasn't looked back. Alia has itched her name in the hearts of millions with her power-packed performances in films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra, Raazi, Dear Zindagi, Darlings, 2 States, Gully Boy, Highway, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and many more.
In a candid conversation with Elle US Magazine, Alia Bhatt opened up about her father, Mahesh Bhatt's struggles. Adding that her father is often associated with success, she mentioned that he has also seen his fair share of failures. Alia further stated that Mahesh Bhatt was out of money at one point in life. She also mentioned that he was battling with alcohol addiction and had given a bunch of flop films in his career during his struggling phase. In her words:
"He had a bunch of flops at one point; he barely had any money, and he was battling an addiction to alcohol."
In the same interview, Alia stated that her father's life was also full of ups and downs. She mentioned that she understands her parents' struggle and will always acknowledge the fact that she has good opportunities in life. Adding that she can never complain about anything in life, Alia said:
"He eventually gave up drinking, but things were still very up and down with his life and work. My parents struggled to get to a point where I could enjoy their privilege. I do recognize that.”
In the same interview, Alia also talked about her privileges and how her mother, Soni Razdan struggles in her career. Elaborating more on it, the actress mentioned that her mother gave auditions after auditions as she had no connections in the film industry. She also stated that her mother never became a mainstream heroine, but she worked hard whenever she got any opportunity. Alia also added that her mother made her aware of her privileges early in her life.
Earlier, in an interview with InStyle Australia, Alia opened up about being tagged as a 'nepo kid'. Talking about the same, the actress mentioned that initially, she would get defensive about such comments. However, with time, she started acknowledging her privileges. Adding that she had an easier path to get into the industry, Alia said:
"My initial response to it was very defensive because I just felt like, you know, I work hard, so why the question? But I think with time and with age, you realise that there’s a lot of struggle in the world and there is a case to be made in acknowledging the headstart and acknowledging I had an easier path to get into the room."
