Alex Murdaugh is set to go into another murder trial after the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned his double murder conviction. The former South Carolina attorney was sentenced in the killings of his wife, Maggie and his younger son, Paul, in 2023. Although the decision had shocked the local community, some reports suggest his family is upset with the ruling. For those unaware, Alex has only one surviving son, Buster Murdaugh. Although he supported his father during the previous trial, his recent reaction has added uncertainty to the case.
According to reports, Buster Murdaugh is devastated by the possibility that he will have to be a part of his father, Alex Murdaugh's, another murder trial. According to Daily Mail, a source close to him said he is upset because he will have to revisit the case in public. Although the new trial will give his father a new chance to prove his innocence, Buster will have to open up about their time as a family with his late mother and younger brother. In the source's words:
"He's not happy. This is going to put him through all of this again. He has to relive the hardest years of his life all over again."

Further, the insider explained that it would once again cause strain in their family. In turn, he called Alex a "Selfish, selfish old man." Another report has suggested that Buster's bond with his father has become distant after he was originally found guilty in 2023. For those unaware, Buster stood beside his father in the first trial and described them as a "close-knit" family. But they have allegedly spoken only a few times since then.

The South Carolina Supreme Court has unanimously overturned Alex Murdaugh's murder convictions. They decided after finding that the court clerk during the first trial, Becky Hill, improperly influenced the jurors. Judges found that Becky's wrongdoing might have damaged Alex Murdaugh's right to a fair trial. According to the recent finding, Becky had allegedly advised the jurors not to be "fooled" by Alex's testimony. At the same time, she encouraged them to closely observe his body language during his testimony.

The court also called out Becky for allegedly taking publicity from the high-profile trial. Judges mentioned her book, Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders, for the same. In turn, they accused her of prioritising personal fame over her responsibilities as the court clerk. Meanwhile, she pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and misconduct in office. Eventually, she resigned in 2024. At the same time, she was sentenced to probation and community service. The court mentioned:

"As her book's title suggests, it turns out Hill was quite busy behind the doors of justice, thwarting the integrity of the justice system she was sworn to protect and uphold."
Alex Murdaugh has been accused of murdering his wife, Maggie and his younger son, Paul. It was alleged that he killed them at a time when his financial crimes and opioid addiction were spiralling out of control. During the previous trial, the prosecution depended mostly on cellphone video evidence. It reportedly showed him near the crime scene minutes before the murder. However, the investigators never found the murder weapons, and prosecutors did not present DNA or blood evidence directly linking him to the shootings. However, Alex has always denied the murders. Despite the new change, Alex will still stay behind bars to serve a prison sentence related to his financial crimes and theft charges.
