The actor has always stated that he never believed in staying committed to a relationship throughout his life. But he was once all set to get married, and to a popular actress, Karisma Kapoor.

Akshaye Khanna was almost set to marry Karisma Kapoor

As per multiple reports, Akshaye Khanna and Karisma Kapoor shared a great bond. When Karisma broke up with Ajay Devgn, she found solace in Akshaye, whom she considered a great friend. Soon their friendship paved the way to love, and the duo fell in love with each other. Even Randhir Kapoor, too, was happy with the relationship and reportedly gave a green signal.

Why couldn’t Akshaye Khanna and Karisma Kapoor get married?

It was also reported that Randhir had sent a marriage proposal for his daughter to Akshaye's father, Vinod Khanna. What went wrong then? It was Karisma’s mother, Babita, who didn’t let the marriage happen. According to reports, Babita was not happy about Karisma getting married, as she was at the peak of her career. As a result, the alliance never took place. Akshaye, who hardly talked about his personal life, never did.

Akshaye Khanna had a major crush on Aishwarya Rai

Like many men, Akshaye Khanna too had a huge crush on former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, who co-starred with him in the films, Aa Ab Laut Chalen and Taal. He confessed to being mesmerised by her beauty and that he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. In a chat with Karan Johar during the promotion of his film, Ittefaq, Akshaye was asked who, according to him, is the sexiest girl in Bollywood. The actor promptly replied, Aishwarya Rai and said:

“I can't take my eyes off her every time I meet her. It's embarrassing for men. She must be used to it (people staring at her). But I'm not used to not being able to take my eyes off somebody. You just keep staring at her like a lunatic.”

Why did Akshaye Khanna not get married and is still single at the age of 50?

Akshaye Khanna had won the 'Best Debut Male' for his role in Border. Despite being such an eligible bachelor, Akshaye is still single at 50. In many of his interviews, he admitted to being commitment-phobic and stated that, over time, he had become warier of relationships.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, when Akshaye was asked why he is still unmarried, the actor gave a very logical reason for the same and said:

"I don’t see myself (getting married), I’m not marriage material, as they say. I’m not cut out for that kind of… (we ask if it’s commitment)… not that, but that kind of life. It’s a commitment, but a drastic lifestyle change. Marriage changes everything. I want full control over my life. When you share your life with somebody else, you can’t have full control. You have to give a lot of control away. You share each other’s lives."
