Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleAkshaye Khanna is one of Bollywood's most talented stars. With films like Border, Taal, Hulchul, Hungama, Humraaz, Race, Dhurandhar, and many others, Akshaye has often proved his versatility as a star. Akshaye has always chosen his roles carefully, and when he appeared as a cop in the crime thriller Drishyam 2, people couldn’t stop hailing him. But while his fans were eager to see him in Drishyam 3, reports surfaced that he made an unexpected exit from the film at the last moment.
Why did Akshaye Khanna quit Drishyam 3, days before the shoot?
The controversy began shortly after reports emerged that Akshaye Khanna had exited Drishyam 3 during pre-production. Many reports said Akshaye left the film due to creative differences. Producer Kumar Mangat told Bollywood Hungama that Akshaye demanded to wear a wig for the film, which didn’t sit well with the makers.

Mangat said he had signed an agreement with Akshaye Khanna and locked in his fees after a lot of negotiations. But when Akshaye insisted on wearing a wig, director Abhishek Pathak wasn't convinced, as it would break the film's continuity. Revealing how the actor was manipulated, Mangat said:
“He insisted that he would like to wear a wig. But (director) Abhishek Pathak convinced him that it wouldn’t be practical. He understood his point and agreed to let go of that demand. However, the chamchas around him advised him that he would look smarter if he donned a wig. So, he again requested the same. Abhishek relented and was even ready to discuss this point with him. But then, he informed us that he doesn’t want to be a part of the film at all.”
Kumar Mangat called Akshaye Khanna ‘highly unprofessional’
In the same interview, Mangat said the fee was never an issue, as Akshaye left Drishyam 3 a day before Dhurandhar’s release. But Mangat also pointed out that Akshaye might have predicted Dhurandhar’s success. However, he called the actor "highly unprofessional" for quitting the film 12 days before the shoot. Mangat also said Akshaye did not respond to calls and text messages from the film's team, including Mangat himself.
Mangat suffered losses because of Akshaye Khanna, and the team sent the actor a legal notice for breach of agreement. Apart from Mangat, director Abhishek Pathak also revealed that Akshaye was not convinced about his look for the film. Speaking about the same to Bombay Times, Abhishek said:
“My film starts from the point where it ended. I couldn’t have him in the courtroom in the afternoon, and in the evening, he comes back with hair. How is it possible?”

After Akshaye Khanna’s exit, Jaideep Ahlawat was added to the cast. But Abhishek Pathak revealed that Jaideep’s character is completely different, and he did not replace Akshaye. Jaideep plays a new character in the upcoming film, ‘SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar’, who is now responsible for the 'Salgaonkar' case.
