Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai is loved for her stunning performances on-screen. However, her role as 'Nandini' in her ex-beau, Salman Khan starrer film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, etched a special place in millions of hearts. And apart from Aishwarya and Salman's on-screen love and romance, their real-life fling was also making the headlines then. Now, as she would be once again seen in the character of 'Nandini' in her upcoming film, Ponniyin Selvan I and II, she was heard talking about the mere coincidence. Moreover, she also hinted at missing her HDDCS days.
On April 25, 2023, Aishwarya Rai graced a promotional event for her upcoming film, Ponniyin Selvan II, along with Vikram, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala, music director, AR Rahman, director, Mani Ratnam and many others. There, she was asked about the mere coincidence that she would be portraying the same character of Nandini yet again on-screen. To which, she explained how memorable the role of 'Nandini' in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is to her. She said:
"Beautiful coincidence na. It's amazing na ki aisa hua bhi hai (it's amazing to know that such a thing actually happened). In fact, yes even Nandini in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was very, very memorable."

For the unversed, 'Nandini' in HDDCS was in love with Salman Khan's character 'Sameer'. However, she was forced to marry Ajay Devgn in the role 'Vanraj', who made an effort to reunite the two lovers, but later Aishwarya fell for him. Talking about the film, Aishwarya remarked that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam has always been special to her. However, she also talked about her character in the upcoming film, and revealed her gratefulness to play such a strong woman role. Aishwarya added:
"She (the character, Nandini) has lived on people's hearts and I am so, so thankful that I got to play Nandini then too and she has remained special for the audience and of course to me. And that was with Sanjay Bhansali ji and today of course with my Mani garu I got to play Nandini in Ponniyan Selvan. I mean that's just tremendously a blessing that I got to play such strong women, such layered women and women with character that touches the lives of so many women out there. There is a relatability, so I'm very very very grateful."
On the Day 2 of the NMACC event, we stumbled upon an iconic picture of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai that went viral all over social media. However, some eagle-eyed fans also spotted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in one corner of the picture, creating a social media stir. Talking about the Bollywood stars, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's alleged relationship, everything was going well between the duo until 2001. It was when Salman was spotted banging on Aishwarya's home door, as per reports, but she wasn't ready to let him in. Since then, more instances of Aishwarya and Salman's ugly fights have surfaced in the media.
