Shapoor Zadran, who is a former Afghanistan cricketer, is fighting for his life at a hospital in Delhi. The 38-year-old ex-Afghanistan cricketer has been diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening disease called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis. Shapoor is admitted to the ICU of a hospital and has been undergoing treatment since January 2026. Now, his younger brother, Ghamai has shared heartbreaking snap of Shapoor and requested all to pray.
Shapoor Zadran's younger brother, Ghamai a while back took to his Instagram handle to share two pictures of his ailing brother. In the first one, Shapoor's picture was from the hospital bed where he looked very weak, while in the second snap, it was from the good times when he was playing one of the matches. Ghamai requested netizens to pray for his ailing brother and wrote:
"Dear fellow countrymen. Prayer can change destiny. My brother and your hero, Shapoor Zadran, has once again fallen seriously ill and is admitted to the ICU. I kindly request all of you to please remember him in your prayers. May Almighty Allah grant him a swift and complete recovery and give us patience."

Ghamai had also pleaded to the netizens in Urdu. Fans of the player broke down seeing Shapoor's condition. A user wrote, "Allah de shifa warki.Ameen. May Allah Almighty give him a swift recovery and forgive all his sins. Ameen." Another user wrote, "Bholenath sb thik kar denge. Get well soon. Wish him a speedy recovery. Which hospital is he admitted to?"

A report by ESPNcricinfo revealed that Shapoor's health issues began in October 2026, when he started to feel pretty unwell. Shapoor's brother, Ghamai, shared that doctors in Afghanistan had advised his family to shift him to India as his condition was getting very serious. Ghamai shared that his brother also got Tuberculosis, and it had spread to his brain and also his full body. Ghamai shared:
"It was a very serious infection. His whole body was full of the infection including TB (tuberculosis). It also spread to his brain, which was revealed after MRI and CT scan. The doctor said we could drop in for the check-ups frequently. He (Shapoor) was feeling good for about 20 days before he got the infection again. Then we admitted him to the hospital (again)."

For the unversed, Shapoor Zadran has played 44 ODIs and 36 T20Is for Afghanistan from 2009 to 2020. At the moment, he is fighting for life as he has stage four HLH. In this, there is hyperinflammation that leads to tissue damage, including the bone marrow, liver, spleen, and various lymph nodes. Ghamai shared that his brother had dengue and revealed:

"He started getting a fever, and then he tested positive for dengue. His immunity was very weak as the red blood cell count was severely depleted. He doesn't have much vitality. We have hope that he will improve day by day. The steroids Shapoor has been given recently seem to be working, and that has given us hope."
Speaking more about Shapoor, according to reports, he had spent the early stage of his life as a refugee in Pakistan. Shapoor had started playing cricket with players such as Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Stanikzai, and Dawlat Zadran, all of whom had represented Afghanistan. Shapoor had made Afghanistan rise in world cricket and was seen in major tournaments such as the ICC World Twenty 20 back in 2012.
