Is 'Adults' Season 3 Happening? Creative Team Has Concepts Ready For The Next Chapter If Renewed

Adults has turned out to be one of the most successful sitcoms on FX. The first season arrived in 2025. The main storyline focuses on a group of friends living in a house of one of them while they face the challenges of adulthood. The lead roles have been portrayed by Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele.

All eight episodes of Season 2 were released on August 27, 2026. While the second season has ended, audiences are eagerly waiting for the third season.

Adults is yet to be renewed for a third season

Following the debut of Adults Season 2 on FX, co-creator Rebecca Shaw said in an interview that the creative team has no shortage of concepts if the sitcom returns for a third season.

She said that the fun part of moving from one season to another was realizing how many storylines did not make it into the initial eight episodes, and that the same situation applies now. According to Rebecca, the writers were left with plenty of material that amused them, including on-set ideas, jokes, character histories and different dynamics for the group to explore.

The series has not yet secured a third season, but both Shaw and fellow co-creator Ben Kronengold have made it clear they want Adults to continue. Back in August 2026, Shaw noted in an interview that they have a lot of plans mapped out in terms of the show’s future. In her conversation with The Wrap, she also said scripting is already underway, adding that they have numerous stories lined up and are eager to move forward whenever they receive approval. The show previously earned a renewal for a second season in October 2025, which happened more than four months after the first season premiered.

How could the story continue after the Season 2 finale?

While there is no official synopsis for Adults season 3 without a renewal, cast members and creators have shared what they hope to explore next. Owen Thiele joked that 'Anton' and 'Paul Baker' would move to Idaho and start a family, before he and Jack Innanen discussed the idea of them traveling to Canada to meet 'Paul's' parents.

Innanen said it would be funny to see them return as an overly affectionate couple who display excessive public affection. Thiele also noted that the overall dynamic within the friend group would need to change, and Innanen added that he would like to see their characters step into a more parental role in the house.

Kronengold and Shaw also spoke to Entertainment Weekly about ‘Billie’ and ‘Samir’s’ secret hookup. Shaw explained that the two acted on what felt right in the moment but will likely have many questions afterward. Kronengold added that the moment remains private for now and questioned whether it was intended to be long-term or simply a case of two people offering each other what they needed that night.

For ‘Issa’, Rao said she would likely react strongly upon learning that her roommates broke the no-dating rule she put in place after her breakup with ‘Paul Baker’, but noted she is looking forward to seeing ‘Issa’ embrace being single.

Speaking to The Wrap about the fallout from election night, Shaw said there would be a lot to unpack the next day. She added that while the reasons behind the characters' choices in the finale are clear, the story now moves to what happens next, with ‘Billie’ and ‘Samir’s’ path looking very different from ‘Anton’ and ‘Paul Baker’s.’ She said all of them made irreversible decisions, which creates an exciting starting point.
