Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, Animal, has been embroiled in controversy since its release on December 1, 2023. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial portrays a strained relationship between a father and his son. It has been performing well at the box office and is considered one of the top films of the year. However, the movie has received criticism for its excessive violence, abusive language, and toxic themes. Critics and fans have expressed their concerns about the film's extremist and misogynistic ideology.
Despite the backlash, several Bollywood stars have come forward to support the movie. On December 4, 2023, popular singer, Adnan Sami shared his thoughts on the Ranbir Kapoor starrer on his official Instagram account. He urged people to ‘stop over-analyzing’ and ‘moral policing’ films. Adnan pointed out that since the movie had received an ‘A’ rating, it was intended for a mature audience capable of distinguishing between right and wrong. He even compared Animal to classic Indian films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Sholay, and Deewar, which despite their illogical sequences were a hit among the audience. He wrote:
“ITS-JUST-A-FILM!!! It’s a fantasy… It’s entertainment!! If you’re looking for logic then also tell me the logic behind the illogical blood donation scene that featured in Amar Akbar Anthony. Three sons of a mother donate blood to her at the same time through a singular tube! That movie is hailed as a cult classic & rightly so, because we all love it! Explain the morality shown in Deewaar or the logic behind ’Thakur’ beating the crap out of Gabbar in the climax of Sholay with just his feet & no hands!! That, too is an incredible classic which we love!!”
Adnan Sami concluded his long post by stating that he has yet to watch the movie, Animal. But he still feels that defending the freedom of expression of an artist was mandatory on his part. He further said that it is absolutely up to the audience to accept or reject any film or any other art form. Despite that, it is crucial for everyone to coexist with a 'live and let live' policy. He said:
“And, NO, I haven’t seen ‘Animal’ as yet but will always defend the right of a creative artist to express what they want to in any form of ‘art’. We, as an audience, have the right to like it or reject it as per our aesthetics! But it is important for us all to co-exist along with a ‘live & let live’ policy!! No one is forcing you to watch or hear anything; similarly, don’t force your opinions on others, especially when those people are presenting a fantasy!! ITS-JUST-A-FILM!!!!!”
However, netizens do not agree with the music composer-singer, Adnan Sami’s opinions. They took to the comment section of the same post and have spoken against his opinions. A user said, ‘If you don't know, films influence the audience. How many examples do u need where people hero worship actors and follow their character traits?’. But not everyone was against Adnan’s thought. One user commented, ‘Adnan sir woke up and chose to speak facts.’ Check out the other comments:
