'We Got Two Warnings..' 23-Yr-Old Indian Sailor, Aditya Sharma's Last Call To Family Before He Died

A 23-year-old deck cadet, Aditya Sharma, was killed during the US military attack on the commercial oil tanker MT SettleBello in the Gulf of Oman. On June 10, 2026, his family was informed that he had gone missing along with two others. At that time, his father urged the authorities to look into the matter as his son had complained that his seniors were exploiting him. Now, Aditya's last conversation with his family has surfaced on the internet.

Aditya Sharma's last call to his family

Aditya Sharma's last phone call with his father. The 23-year-old young cadet had revealed that they were getting 'warnings' from the US forces as the situation was getting tense. He was onboard his Palau-flagged merchant tanker, MT Settebello, and it was navigating waters off the coast of Oman. In an interview with The Indian Express, Aditya's father, Rajesh Sharma, revealed that they would talk daily and on a WhatsApp call on Sunday, he told him that they had gotten two warnings.

Rajesh Sharma shared that despite the warnings, their ship was still trying to sail towards the Strait of Hormuz, and they were worried as another ship was attacked on the same day, but the crew members were rescued. Rajesh Sharma was quoted as saying:

"We spoke almost daily. On a WhatsApp call Sunday, he told me that they got at least two warnings from the US Navy in the past fortnight, and that the ship is still trying to push towards the Strait of Hormuz. We were worried. Another ship, in their vicinity, was attacked on the same day, but he assured us that all the crew aboard that ship was safely rescued."

It is worth noting that Aditya was among the three Indian sailors who were killed by American forces on June 9 2026, amid the ongoing standoff over the Strait of Hormuz. In defence, the US military claimed that they attacked the tanker after it violated the blockade put up by the US outside the Strait of Hormuz, off the Oman coast.

Who was Aditya Sharma?

Aditya Sharma hailed from Himachal Pradesh. He was one of the three missing Indian seafarers, along with engine fitter, Shivanand Chuarasiya and Chief engineer, Patnala Suresh, who went missing after the attack, and later they were declared dead by Indian authorities. Aditya was serving as a deck cadet. He was training to become a licensed ship officer on the Palau-flagged vessel.

After the reports claimed that three Indians sailors went missing, Aditya Sharma's father took to his X account and appealed to the Indian Government to help find him. He shared that the shipping company messaged him. He added that his son had reported exploitation by a senior at the ship and wanted to quit it in April 2026. His post on X can be read as:

"I am father of one of the three crew missing. Aditya Sharma is my son. Please help to locate and find him. Below shipping company message to me. My son has reported exploitation by senior at ship and want to quit this ship in April. We have all conservation in records."

This post was shared as the family hoped that Aditya might have escaped into the water. They were also praying that he was among the 21 crew members who were rescued by the Omani Navy. But God had other plans, and all three missing sailors' deaths were confirmed on June 11, 2026. The family in Himachal Pradesh urged the MEA to hasten the repatriation of Aditya's mortal remains from Oman for his final rites.

We pray for Aditya Sharma's family as they navigate a tough time.
