Actor, Subhashree Ganguly Slammed For 'Tasteless Pics' With Messi At GOAT Event, 'She Is Behaving..'

It's already been two days since Argentine legend, Lionel Messi's visit to Kolkata. Football fans had been eagerly anticipating his first visit to India in 14 years. However, as you might already be aware by now, when Messi entered into an energetic crowd at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, things didn't turn out exactly as planned. To call what happened on Saturday simply chaotic would be an understatement.  

This is because when the football legend exited from the stadium merely ten minutes after his stay, the event turned into an all-out brawl, with many angry spectators throwing bottles and chairs to the ground after missing out on their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Messi. Amid this, renowned Bengali actress, Subhashree Ganguly posted several pictures to her social media, posing alongside the football icon. This greatly angered fans, with many slamming her and calling her move 'tasteless'.  

Bengali actress, Subhashree Ganguly faces backlash  

After the whole mess of an event at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, social media users and the press have not missed a chance to bash the poor management on December 13, 2025. Even after two days since the incident and Messi leaving the state, the anger surrounding the event has not died down at all. This is even more true for the event attendees who paid hefty prices for tickets to catch a glimpse of the legendary football player.

Amid this, just one day after the event that left fans highly disappointed, Bengali actress, Subhashree Ganguly shared pictures of herself happily posing beside Messi. She captioned the carousel of pictures, “Represented the Bengali Film Fraternity at The G.O.A.T India Tour @leomessi”. Given the seriousness of what happened that day and with her being one of the top actresses in Tollywood, social media users were astonished at her allegedly tone-deaf attitude. As one can already guess, after she posted the series of photos, angry fans quickly took to her comment section, not only accusing her of being insensitive but also criticising the political leaders who ruined the event. Many users also pointed out that she was ‘rubbing salt into fans' wounds'.  

One user commented, “If politicians and celebrities like you have come to see, they could have seen them in their personal homes.. What was the need to use the money of people like us??” Another wrote, “She is behaving like she's the desired celebrity and Messi is just a fan.” A third fan penned, “You are one of the most famous Bengali actress of recent times, when the situation is sensitive, common people are angry, you should not have posted this mam.” 

Subhashree's husband, Raj Chakraborty, comes to her defence  

After the heavy criticism that Subhashree faced for posting the pictures, her husband, actor and director, Raj Chakraborty, quickly came to her defence. In a social media post on that very day, he wrote: 

“Thousands of people who bought tickets at a high price were deprived of seeing their hero. Her ‘crime’ was posting a photograph with Messi. Does being an actress disqualify her from being a Messi fan?” 

Furthermore, he also questioned the role of the media at the event. According to him, although a huge number of journalists were present at the GOAT Tour, the general public targeted Subhashree only because she is a famous public figure. He said: 

“How a person, especially a woman, is treated leaves a lasting imprint. There is a vast difference between protest and humiliation.”
