On April 30, 2020, the fateful morning had brought the terrible news of the unexpected demise of veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor. The 68-year-old-actor had succumbed to cancer and had left for the heavenly abode. The whole industry had mourned his demise and had penned eulogies, remembering the charismatic man that Rishi ji was.
Abhishek Bachchan had worked with Rishi ji in movies like All is well, Delhi 6 and many more. The actor shared a great camaraderie with his 'Chintu uncle' and admired him a great deal. On Rishi ji's demise, Abhishek had shared a picture with him and had written, "The true measure of a great man is... When upon his passing, you don't just remember him, but you remember yourself with him! I will always remember how you made me feel, Chintu uncle. Your love, encouragement, humour and honesty. Some losses are too personal to discuss publicly. You just have to cherish the moments together and the memories. I will always."
In an interview with Film Companion, Abhishek Bachchan recalled an incident when he and Rishi Kapoor were shooting for a film in Shimla. Abhishek had discovered how Rishi Kapoor would keep tabs on his son, Ranbir Kapoor. Abhishek said that he had gone to Rishi Kapoor’s room one morning to have coffee with him. Explaining what he had seen there, the actor said, “We were shooting in Shimla, and in the morning, I went to his room because I used to sit and have coffee with him in the morning. I walked into the room and he was in his lungi, he had these small glasses and he was on his computer. I found that very cute from behind, this visual.”
Further, when Abhishek Bachchan had asked Rishi Kapoor what he was up to, the veteran actor had told him about how he reads gossip websites to know what Ranbir has been doing and said, "(This is) the only way I can tell what Ranbir is doing.” Abhishek Bachchan then said, “And I am like, ‘This guy, he is amazing! He had no filter. He would just say it.’ So, he was following (the site) to know what Ranbir was up to. I found that so sweet.”
After his father, Rishi ji's demise, in an interview with Rajeev Masand, Ranbir Kapoor had opened up about his impact on him. Talking about the last two years spent with his dad, Ranbir had shared, “I think the person I am is because of the strong value system he imbibed in me. He's been an extremely passionate man, a family man. Just the time I spent with him in these last 2 years before he passed... walking with him from the hotel to the hospital while he was getting his chemotherapy and just walking in silence and just being around him… it's gone so fast but I don't know if I have really formed words yet to tell what impact he has had on me. But I do know that it's the largest impact a human being has had in my life so far.”
In an interaction with Filmfare, Ranbir Kapoor had talked about the one thing that he cannot do like his late father, Rishi Kapoor. When he was asked if he would ever write his autobiography, just like his father, Ranbir had said that he feels he can never write an autobiography. He had said that he has no courage to put his life out there in open for the public. He had also added that no matter how great a human being he was meant to become, he is still a little bit of a hypocrite, and doesn’t think that his personality is interesting enough to open up.
Rishi ji and Ranbir Kapoor were a treat to watch in one frame!
