Odia Music Composer, Abhijit Majumdar Passed Away At The Age Of 54, What Was The Reason?

One of the famous Odia music composers, Abhijit Majumdar, who has his credits in over 700 songs, passed away on January 25, 2026. The composer began his journey in the Sambalpuri music industry. Abhijit's skills instantly grabbed the attention, and he transitioned into Ollywood. Over the years, Abhijit had made a name for himself in the Sambalpuri music industry, and he had composed several songs across Odia films, albums, and some of his well-known songs are Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Mr Majnu and more.

Abhijit Majumdar had been fighting with several health issues for a long time. He passed away on January 25, 2026, while being in AIIMS Bhubaneswar. If the reports are to be believed, Abhijit was first admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack after several health conditions, such as low sodium levels and other health complications.

Following this, Abhijit Majumdar was shifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar in September 2025. Doctors then shifted Abhijit to the ICU, and following this, reports surfaced that Abhijit had slipped into a coma. Abhijit Majumdar's health condition worsened in recent times, as reported, and it was on January 24, 2026, when he was taken off the ventilator and then to the ICU. Abhijit Majumdar passed away on January 26, 2026, leaving behind his legacy.

What was the reason for Abhijit Majumdar's demise?

On the other hand, a report by Odia Bytes detailed his health condition. As per the reports, back in September 2025, Abhijit Majumdar suffered several health conditions, such as Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine), bilateral pneumonia, bloodstream infection, which was caused by multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter, chronic liver disease, electrolyte imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies. Following this, he was admitted to the ICU and was receiving treatment. On January 23, 2026, Abhijit suffered a fever, which further turned into refractory septic shock. On January 25, 2026, the music composer suffered a cardiac arrest, which claimed his life, being 54.

Abhijit Majumdar began his journey in 1991 and soon became a well-known face with his skills. He was born in Cuttack and had contributed to more than 700 songs, which led him to be one of the influential figures in the Sambalpuri music industry. Abhijit Majumdar is survived by his wife, Ranjeeta (Ranjita) Majumdar and their son Ayush Majumdar.

The music composer was close to his family, who stood by him like a strong pillar throughout his prolonged health battle. Abhijit Majumdar had a massive fanbase in Ollywood, who are now mourning the demise of the composer. Expressing sadness over the passing of such a gem, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, wrote on X:

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul."
