A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiered on HBO and HBO Max on January 18, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and as expected, the entire internet is buzzing with discussions around it. The fantasy series has already become one of the most-discussed topics in entertainment, as fans of Game of Thrones have taken over the internet. From X to Reddit and Instagram, edits of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are dominating the trending charts. The show will run six weekly episodes through late February 2026, with new instalments dropping every Sunday night.
In India, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on JioHotstar and Sky Atlantic, while in the U.K., it’s on NOW. The show is adapted from George R. R. Martin’s first book in the Tales of Dunk and Egg series, The Hedge Knight. The series stars Peter Claffey as 'Ser Duncan the Tall' (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire, 'Aegon Targaryen' (Egg). Even before the show's release, the makers renewed it for a second season in November 2025. 'Ser Duncan' and 'Aegon Targaryen' are going to travel across Westeros as the show is set nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones.

Talking about the timeline gap between A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, the new show is roughly 70-80 years after the events of Matt Smith’s show. As a result, this story will bridge gaps in Targaryen history while offering GOT fans a fresh perspective on the world before the Iron Throne and the great wars for it. However, the new show is receiving a lot of positive reviews for its rich exploration of the Targaryen lineage and the family connections among various members of the clan during a time when the dynasty is still in power.

Coming to the core of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Prince Aegon Targaryen is introduced in the show as Egg. It is about a time when dragons are fading from living memory, but the Targaryens still hold a dominant political position in Westeros, and it is their bloodline drama that drives the show. Egg is the nephew of 'Prince Baelor Breakspear Targaryen', who is the heir to the Iron Throne and Hand of the King to Daeron II. Egg is also the younger brother of 'Prince Aerion Brightflame Targaryen'. All these major characters have been introduced in the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, adding the much-needed depth to the Targaryen lineage.

Talking about the temporal placement of the series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has given GOT fanatics a much-needed opportunity to witness the Targaryens in a time when their grip on the Seven Kingdoms was still quite strong. Egg’s presence in Duncan’s life subtly explores the evolution of the Targaryen temperament that would be carried up by their future generations. Interestingly, the prequel contrasts the Targaryen royal life with the humble experience of ordinary Westerosi, embodied by Dunk, whose ethos stands in stark contrast to his royal family’s ambition. The show has received early positive reviews for its fresh narrative about loyalty and legacy rather than power plays.
