Earlier, in March 2026, Kristi was fired following her alleged extramarital affair with political adviser Corey Lewandowski. The affair also affected her marriage to Bryon Noem. According to the latest reports, the couple has filed for divorce after 34 years of marriage.

According to reports, the former Department of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem filed the divorce paperwork on September 28, 2026, in their home state of South Dakota. Kristi and Bryon were childhood sweethearts and stayed together for more than three decades. It is worth noting that the divorce news comes months after Kristi was fired from her position atop DHS and reports that Bryon participated in online fetish forums.
Dakota News Now reported that Kristi has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce. The former couple married in 1992 and share three children: daughters, Kassidy and Kennedy, and son, Booker. They are also grandparents to Kassidy and Kennedy’s children.
Earlier, in July 2026, Kristi Noem’s mother, Corinne Arnold, told The Daily Mail that Kristi and Bryon were divorcing, but papers were not filed until this week. Corinne shared that she felt bad. She said, "I feel bad, sick that they’re getting a divorce, but what else can you do?" Soon after, Kristi was removed from her position as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security; she was given another role as a special envoy for the Shield of the Americas. This happened before the reports about her husband, Bryon, became public.
On March 31, 2026, The Daily Mail published a report claiming that 56-year-old Bryon had been involved in online fetish communities and had communicated with online performers. At the time, Kristi's representatives said she was 'devastated' and that the family had been caught off guard by the report. They told The New York Post:
"Ms. Noem is devastated. The family was blindsided by this, and they ask for privacy and prayers at the time."
In April 2026, more women came forward saying that they had communicated with Bryon Noem, including Webcam model Lydia Love, who shared that Noem was her client.
Inside Kristi Noem and Bryon Noem's relationship
The former couple met in high school. After years of dating, they tied the knot in 1992. At the time, Kristi was 20. In her first year as governor of South Dakota, Kristi applauded Bryon for running their household while she was away for work. In a column for South Dakota State News, Kristi shared that Bryon handled many of the household chores and responsibilities, including taking care of things related to their children, ranch, and home.
Kristi explained that she married Bryon because she wanted to build a life and family with him. She said she felt lucky to have a husband who understood how much she appreciated coming home to a clean house and a well-managed family. Kristi admitted that over the years, the thing that made her love him even more was how much he cared for and loved their children. She said:
"I am blessed to have a husband who recognizes how wonderful it is for me to come back to a clean house and a well-managed family, and he tries to make that happen. But over the years, what has made me love him more each day is the way he loves our kids."
The South Dakota Governor’s website stated that Bryon said that when he met Kristi, she wanted to be a farmer and teacher. Over the years, they worked together on several businesses and family projects. The website also says that Bryon often described marrying Kristi as the best decision he had ever made.
