Anderson and Lee first met on New Year's Eve in 1994. The Baywatch star and the Mötley Crüe drummer quickly became inseparable, and after reconnecting weeks later in Cancun, Mexico, their romance escalated almost overnight. Just days into their trip, they got married on a beach. Anderson famously wore a white bikini, while Lee wore shorts.

Anderson and Lee's private home video was stolen from a safe at their Malibu home. The tape spread like wildfire and became one of the most infamous celebrity privacy scandals of the era. Reports later revealed that the safe was allegedly stolen by electrician Rand Gauthier following a dispute involving renovation work at the couple's home. Inside were jewelry, personal belongings, and the private tape. Anderson and Lee fought to stop its distribution through legal action, but the footage continued to spread online.
The scandal would follow the couple for decades. It was revisited in the 2022 Hulu series Pam & Tommy, which Anderson later criticized for reopening painful memories from her life. They also reunited briefly after Lee's release from jail before eventually splitting again. The former couple's history became even more complicated in 2002, when Anderson publicly revealed that she had hepatitis C. In a statement released in March 2002, the actress clarified:
"I contracted hepatitis C while sharing a tattoo needle with my ex-husband Tommy Lee. Tommy has the disease and never disclosed it to me during our marriage."
She said she contracted the virus after sharing a tattoo needle with Lee and claimed he had not disclosed that he had the disease during their marriage. Lee publicly denied having hepatitis C at the time, while his representatives suggested her comments were connected to the former couple's ongoing custody battle. Anderson would live with hepatitis C for years before eventually being cured.
Lee, however, publicly denied having hepatitis C, though he later revealed he had it. At that time, the former couple was also locked in a custody battle over their two young sons, Brandon and Dylan. They eventually appeared to reach a more peaceful place as co-parents over time. Anderson has spoken about the genuine love they once shared. According to The Naked Gun actress, the two now remain estranged and are no longer on speaking terms. Pamela noted that Lee's current wife, Brittany Furlan, has played a role in their estrangement.
Yet, after years of turbulence, Pamela insists that their love was real, and wishes to have friendly terms with Tommy one day.
