Is Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping part of a larger 'Targeted Attack'?

Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, who has been leading the investigation into the Nancy Guthrie case, recently spoke with NBC about it. He revealed that the investigators know about the possible reason behind Nancy's abduction, and they believe she was specifically targeted for the same. However, Chris noted that the detectives are not entirely certain of that conclusion.

Furthermore, he warned that the suspect might strike again, urging the community to remain alert. But at the same time, he clarified that authorities cannot say for certain whether others might be at risk. During the same interview, Chris also highlighted that they are examining whether a wi-fi jammer may have been used on the night of the crime to disrupt the home's internet connection and interfere with security systems or surveillance cameras.

Expert questions Pima County Sheriff's public remarks

While the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's search continues, a former federal investigator, Jason Pack, spoke to Page Six and raised concerns about how certain aspects of the case have been communicated to the public. According to reports cited by the outlet, former FBI agent Jason Pack criticized some public statements by local officials. He specifically pointed out Chris Nanos' comments, suggesting that they believe Nancy Guthrie may have been deliberately targeted by her abductor.

Jason warned that making such comments without giving proper context can create confusion and fear among the residents. Additionally, he explained that authorities publicly communicate about a possible threat but do not clarify who might be at risk, it can cause unnecessary fear. According to the former FBI agent, the public naturally wants to know whether they might be in danger and what steps to take to stay safe.

Moreover, Jason Pack emphasised the need for coordinated messaging in such high-profile cases involving multiple investigating authorities, including local law enforcement and the FBI. He noted that when agencies make statements without clarifying which information can be released and which cannot, it can lead to uncertainty in the case. Sharing how the pressure of high-profile cases can lead to small errors, Jason said:

"When the sheriff says investigators believe they know the motive but won't share it, there's an investigative reason. This is it. You don't hand the suspect a roadmap of what you know. I do not quarrel with that. Nobody gets everything right under that kind of sustained pressure, and I respect the weight he's carrying."

FBI finds new surveillance images at Nancy Guthrie's home

Meanwhile, the federal authorities have found some additional images from surveillance cameras at Guthrie's residence. According to a report by ABC News, investigators retrieved additional thumbnail images from motion-activated cameras installed around the property. These cameras were placed near the backyard, side yard, and swimming pool areas. Some of these images now show several people in those areas before and shortly after Nancy's disappearance, including law enforcement responding to the scene. However, the cameras did not capture significant activity during the time investigators believe the abduction occurred. Subsequently, the only previously released image showing a masked suspect on Nancy's property remains a lead in the case.
