Yes, Katrina received a summon to serve the jury duty at Wyandotte County Courthouse on the her wedding day, leaving her stunned.
Katrina found herself in the midst of a rollercoaster as she had waited to serve the jury duty for the past ten years, but she got the notice to serve on her wedding day. It was a bizzare coincidence, and she shared the same on her social media. The video has gained more than 1 million views on Instagram and TikTok.
After raising her concern, the courts gave Katrina a pass this time as she shared she would like to sit on a jury on a different day due to her wedding in Italy. For the unversed, the notice forced her to complete one week of jury dutry that would start on the day of her wedding as she was getting married to Billie Rodriguez, 42. She revealed that her jawdropped like a cartoon when she received the summon on August 14, 2026.
Katrina was shocked to see the date on the notice and shared a video of the same on TikTok. Along with it, she stated that the chances of getting summoned for jury duty on your wedding day are low but never zero. She further added that the goverment wanted to get involved in her marriage. Her caption can be read as:
"The odds of you getting summoned for jury duty on your wedding day are low, but never zero. The government wants to be involved in my marriage SO BAD."
It is worth adding that Katrina would have gotten pentalties if she had skipped the jury duty without informing the court. For the unversed, jury duty is a mandatory civic obligation in the US where ordinary citizens are asked to serve as impartial deciders of fact during a court trial.
It is worth mentioning that those who skipped jury duty in Kansas could be slapped with a fine of USD 100 for each day they would be absent. And it could lead to a contempt of court charge. Katrina was in the midst of an ocean as she wanted to serve but it clashed with her big day. In an interaction, Katrina said that it was ironic on being summoned for jury duty on the biggest day after waiting for it over a decade. She said:
"I find it deeply ironic that I haven’t been summoned for jury duty in over a decade, as I would genuinely welcome the opportunity. I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to experience that civic responsibility, particularly for a complex or high-profile case. [But] Because of the nature of our destination wedding, with all flights, venues, and vendors booked and paid for, it is entirely impossible for me to attend."
After getting the summon, she emailed court officials and they understood the situation and gave her a relaxation. She received the message which read, "Received and excused you from jury duty. Thank you and congratulations."
The netizens also shared their thoughts on the same on Katrina's IG video. One user revealed that she got her 'jury duty' summon on the day she was due to give birth, "I got jury duty for the day I gave birth lol." Another commented, "This happened to me in 2023 and I immediately broke out in hives right on the week of my wedding. thankfully my state allows 1 courtesy reschedule so I moved it back 6 months, then I moved to a different county and then the summons became void."
