Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleIt's officially Thalapathy Vijay’s day as his much-awaited film, Jana Nayagan, arrived in theatres, and the film has already made history. Yes, Jana Nayagan added another milestone to Vijay’s career as it crossed 1 million ticket sales on a ticketing platform. As Jana Nayagan reached fever pitch across Tamil Nadu, reports swirled that actress Trisha will be attending the first day first show of the film.
Amid the rumours of Trisha attending the first day show of Vijay’s much-awaited film, the actress was spotted at Rohini Theatre in Chennai to watch Jana Nayagan, adding to the excitement around the release. Trisha kept her look simple in a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Joining an array of Vijay fans, Trisha proved that she too is a true Thalapathy fan and made the actor’s farewell film a memorable event.
Trisha and Vijay have a long professional association. The duo began working together in 2004 with the film Ghilli. They then shared the screen space in films like Thirupaachi, Aathi and Kuruvi. After years, the duo was last seen together in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo, released in 2023. Trisha and Vijay share a great bond, and the two have often heaped praises on each other.
Jana Nayagan centres around the titular character ‘Vetri,’ played by Vijay, who first plays the role of a convict behind bars, who later transpires into different characters. The film is inspired by the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari and stars an ensemble cast, including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain.
Jana Nayagan has also drawn attention because it is being marketed as Vijay's final film as a lead actor. The film is releasing simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and has recorded strong overseas pre-sales. Another interesting point of the film, which is garnering a lot of attention, is the change in Vijay’s title card in the film.
As per the sources, Jana Nayagan’s title card reads “The Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu – Thalapathy C Joseph Vijay” instead of “Thalapathy Vijay”. The film’s opening day is expected to reveal the tone for its theatrical run. Jana Nayagan will be measured against Vijay’s recent box office benchmarks, which include Leo earning Rs. 606 crore and Goat earning Rs. 458 crore.
The film had faced many hurdles earlier, like certification issues and an online leak, which eventually delayed its release. Many modifications were made to the film, including trimming certain scenes, replacing much footage, and muting a few references related to religion and Vijay's political party.
Earlier, it was speculated that Jana Nayan’s leak was done deliberately as it was an attempt to help Vijay win the polls. However, recently the director dismissed the rumours and said that a film made on a budget of Rs. 400 crores would not have leaked so easily. As per multiple reports, Vijay has been paid around Rs. 220 crores as fees. The report further stated that if the film crosses a global box-office collection, then the actor will be paid Rs. 31 crores as a bonus.
