Toxic Composer, Ravi Recalls How A Stranger's Keyboard And Rs. 35K Saved His Life, 'S**cide Twice..'

'KGF' and 'Toxic' composer, Ravi Basrur, has revealed how he attempted s**cide twice at 18. Recalls how a man who heard his music saved his life.

Toxic will soon be released in cinemas near you. However, amid all that, there is a revelation from the film's composer that has left us all stunned. Sharing his struggle earlier in life, KGF composer, Ravi Basrur has shared how he almost gave up on life twice before someone became his guardian angel and saved him.

KGF composer tried to take his life

When KGF: Chapter 1 was released in 2018, audiences couldn't stop grooving to the hype tunes of Salaam Rocky Bhai and were instantly hooked to its powerful background music. The man behind those impeccable tunes was Ravi Basrur, who went on to compose music for KGF: Chapter 2, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire and Kabzaa. However, long before the fame and acclaim, the composer battled deep personal struggles and even attempted to take his own life.

At the recent teaser launch event of the Telugu film, Cult, Ravi Basrur was honoured for his contribution to the project. He was further surprised by actor-director-writer, Vishwak Sen, who gifted them a Rolex watch as a token of appreciation in front of the media, leaving the composer visibly emotional and speechless. Ravi further addressed the crowd and shared the hard time of his life.

He recalled the heartbreaking time in his life. Ravi Basrur shared that by the age of 18, he had attempted to take his life twice. He shared that he didn't want the life he was living. However, both times he was saved. The composer added that the man who saved him also bought him a keyboard and gave him money. Ravi later changed his name to 'Ravi' in honour of the man who saved him.

"By the age of 18, I had attempted s**cide twice. I didn’t want this life. However, I was saved both times. The man who saved me the second time heard my music, bought me a keyboard, and gave me Rs 35,000. That day, I changed my name to Ravi—it was the name of the man who saved my life."

Ravi Basrur expressed his gratitude

During the event, Ravi Basrur addressed the gathering and shared that he had 25 years of experience in the music world. The well-known music composer shared that he has always tried to do right by the people he makes music for, and today he was appreciated in return. He was quoted as saying:

"I have 25 years of experience. I have always tried to give good music to good people. Today, with this honour, he has appreciated my soul. He appreciated my dedication towards music. It is not just a watch, it is an appreciation for musicians. After that man, it is Vishwak Sen who recognised me—my journey and my soul. I will be indebted to him all my life."

The film, Cult, stars Vishwak Sen, Gayatri Bharadwaj, and Murali Sharma. The film is written and directed by Vishwak Sen himself, with Ravi Basrur composing the music. The makers shared the film’s teaser today but have yet to announce its release date.
