The plotline of Toaster

The recently released movie, Toaster opens with showing two different parallels. The film begins with showing a politician, 'Amol Amre' (played by Jitendra Joshi) giving a speech against illegal activities; however, in reality he is also involved in those things. Later, the story shifts to 'Ramakant' (played by Rajkummar Rao) and his wife, 'Shilpa' (played by Sanya Malhotra). 'Ramakant' is a proper kanjoos, who hates spending even a small amount of money. However, his wife buys a Rs. 5000 worth toaster to gift a couple on their wedding. The next morning of the marriage, they decide to call it off and donate all gifts in an orphanage. This triggers 'Ramakant', who plans to get the toaster back at any cost.

The search for toaster turns into a murder mystery

To get the toaster back, 'Ramakant' reaches the orphanage and rather than asking for it, he steals it. However, he soon realises that the toaster he has is the wrong one. The real one is with 'Glen', who has hidden the data card containing the politician's video in it. Eventually, 'Ramakant' reaches out to 'Glen' to get the toaster back and the duo end up having a fight. During the physical fight, 'Glen' accidentally falls off the balcony and dies. Despite being an accident, 'Ramakant' is now a major suspect in his death case.

Right after the incident, 'Ramakant' starts receiving messages from a woman named 'Pherwani' (played by Archana Puran Singh), who claims that she has the video of him pushing 'Glen'. 'Pherwani' puts 'Ramakant' in several uncomfortable situations, leaving the latter trapped. The plot also reveals that 'Pherwani' had once killed her own husband. Meanwhile, the politician, 'Amol' involves a corrupt officer to find the toaster. Well, now everybody is behind the toaster for different reasons.

Toaster ending explained

After a major chaos, everyone involved in the case finally reach an abandoned amusement park. Eventually, they discover that the toaster has two memory cards- one of the politician and the other of 'Ramakant'. During a face-off between 'Ramakant' and 'Amol', the former plays it smart and hands him the wrong memory card. 'Amol' in anger destroys it, which means 'Ramakant's video has now been deleted and he is safe. During the same chaotic situation, 'Pherwani' and the corrupt police officer tragically die.

Towards the end of the movie, Toaster, 'Ramakant' and his wife, 'Shilpa' return back to their normal life. Even though their relationship has been strained, they reconcile and try to figure things out. 'Ramakant' continues to run his perfume shop. However, it is worth mentioning that now he has the secret of the politician with him. While the makers have not yet announced, it looks like the movie might return with a sequel to know more about the memory card, which can bring 'Amol's' truth out.

Why didn’t Patralekhaa act in her first film as a producer?

A few days ago, Rajkummar Rao’s wife, Patralekhaa opened up about her decision to not act in Toaster, despite being the producer. She stated that she wanted to understand the process of production rather than get busy with acting. In her words:

"I genuinely wanted to understand how films are made. From the very beginning, I was certain that I wouldn’t act in our first production. I wanted to learn how production works, and with someone as talented as Sanya onboard, I’m glad I made that decision."
