Suki Waterhouse recently sat down for an interview with The Sunday Times. During the chat, she revisited her relationship with Bradley Cooper. They dated from 2013 to 2015. Although the singer did not directly name him, she described that her earlier relationships were different. So, she is surprised how happy she has been in her current relationship with Robert Pattinson. In her words:
"Maybe I was surprised because before I had only ever gone out with someone for two years, and if it was two years it would have been a disaster in the end.'
Suki shared that she was too young in her early twenties and inexperienced when she began to get into relationships. So, she did not completely understand the impact of being involved in a public relationship. In fact, the singer had no idea that things would eventually become difficult when her personal matters were discussed in the media.
Suki felt the emotional impact of the separation for a long time after it ended. She previously described the experience as a "colossal heartbreak". The singer revealed in 2023 to The Sunday Times Style magazine that she was struggling with depression. In her words:
"I was kind of depressed for a while."
After the breakup, Suki explained that the difficult phase was connected to both her breakup and the challenges of dealing with her twenties. In fact, she also mentioned that she felt trapped in her late life. After the split, Suki spent her life alone in her Notting Hill flat. She also began to question her future in modeling. Recalling how she used her feelings for songwriting, she said
"I felt quite stifled by it... I started feeling, like, 'I have to find a way out of here, or I'm going to drown.'"
For those who don't know, Suki Waterhouse reportedly broke up with Bradley Cooper in March 2015. They had been together for two years before the split. According to reports at the time, the duo was at different stages in life.
Bradley, 40, was reportedly keen to start a family. However, Suki, 23, wanted to focus on her career. The breakup was shortly before he began to date Russian model Irina Shayk. However, they did not confirm the exact reason for the split.
The public nature of the duo's breakup made everything difficult. During a 2024 interview with British Vogue, Suki explained that while facing a difficult personal situation, it was isolating not being able to share her side of the story.
Suki also spoke about the pain of reading comparisons between her and Bradley's new girlfriend. Eventually, she took a decade to understand herself and reach a happy place in life. Looking back, she admits she could not believe how her life would change in the future.
